VILORIA CLAIMS HIS OPPONENT WAS SIGNED AT THE LAST MINUTE
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 19 May 2008
Former world light flyweight champion Brian Viloria claims his opponent for his fight in Aguascalientes, Mexico on Sunday (Manila Time) was signed at the last minute. What happened to Viloria reminded Filipino fights fans of the last-minute opponent of Rodel Mayol, undefeated Adrian Hernandez, who knocked out Mayol in the fourth round.
But Viloria took no chances and didn?t give the partisan Mexican crowd a chance to influence the judges by their support for Fred Herberto Valdez, taking him out with a vicious body shot at 2:10 of the third round.
Viloria said later ?The crowd just favored him a lot more and I didn?t want it to go to the scorecards.? Viloria who is looking at a chance to regain his world title which was lost in somewhat controversial circumstances to Omar Nino told the Honolulu Star Bulletin that ?when the knockout presented itself I just took it.?
By all accounts from ringside, the 27 year old Viloria whose parents were originally from Ilocos Sur in northern Philippines looked impressive and punched with authority clearly indicating that he was back on track for another world title shot.
