FARENAS, VILORIA IN IMPRESSIVE WINS
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 19 May 2008

Super featherweight prospect Michael Farenas, a prot?g? of WBO bantamweight champion Gerry Penalosa and former WBC light flyweight champion Brian Viloria have scored impressive wins on Top Rank promoter Bob Arum?s ?Latin Fury 4? fight card in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Southpaw Farenas scored a unanimous six round decision over Mexico ?s Fermin De Los Santos, a tough opponent who has lost 11 fights against 10 wins and 1 draw but had never been knocked out in his career.
However, the hard-hitting Farenas dropped De Los Santos with a ripping right to the body in round two and had his opponents mouthpiece flying no less than four times in the bout. Farenas improved to 21-2-2 with 18 knockouts while De Los Santos dropped to 10-12-1 with 7 knockouts.
Viloria who is on the comeback trail after losing his WBC title to Omar Nino in somewhat controversial circumstances scored a smashing knockout at 2:10 of the third round knockout over Fred ?Freddy Herberto Valdez with a vicious left to the body putting Viloria?s opponent out for godd.
Fight News reported that the 27 year old Viloria ?looked sharp and was constantly on the attack? against the Mexican southpaw. He improved his record to22-2-1 with 13 knockouts but it should be noted that Valdez suffered his 18th defeat as against only 10 wins and 5 knockouts and it was the 32 year old fighter?s 15th loss by KO.
In a telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today, Penalosa said he was ?very happy? over the success of Farenas and expressed the hope that bigger and better opportunities would be in store for his prot?g?.
