ABU DHABI HOSTS THIRD EDITION OF IBA’S GLOBAL BOXING FORUM PhilBoxing.com Mon, 12 Dec 2022 Boxing stars past and present descended on Abu Dhabi for the IBA (International Boxing Association) Global Boxing Forum 2022, with guests including legends such as Evander Holyfield and Roy Jones Jr, along with current fighters Dmitry Bivol, Lawrence Okolie, Joshua Buatsi, Estelle Mossely and many more. Now in its third year, The IBA Global Boxing Forum is a platform enabling all participants of the international boxing movement to openly exchange ideas, learn from the best practice in the sports industry and create new connections. After a welcome address by IBA President Umar Kremlev (pictured), a number of panel sessions, seminars and discussions took place, covering important topics such as how boxing achieved gender equality, challenges and solutions for boxing development globally, sport and governance integrity and the career journey. Ensuring sound opportunities for athletes, and boxing’s place in the Olympic Games, was the overarching theme of this year’s event, which was held at the Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers. ‘The Global Boxing Forum is a unique opportunity to bring our boxing family together, discuss our challenges and find the necessary solutions,’ said Kremlev in his opening address. ‘I expect a lot of innovative and insightful ideas to be voiced and recommendations to be made.’ ‘Issues are always solved in a dialogue,’ added Jones Jr. ‘I would like to thank IBA and President Kremlev for an opportunity to voice our ideas and propose the best things for our beloved sport. Together, we can achieve more. ‘We’re here to strongly enforce the fact that the IBA is trying to help amateur boxing, pro boxing, bring the two together and help boxing as a whole. ‘We’re trying to put everybody together to get support and make sure boxing lives on in the Olympic era and in the professional era.’ The Global Boxing Forum draws to a close on Sunday with the IBA Champion’s Night, an inaugural tournament which is set to become a unique and entertaining format of competitions for athletes and spectators. An exciting card features the likes of Bakhodir Jalolov, an Olympic gold medalist in 2020, and talented fighters such as France’s Sofiane Oumiha and Russia’s Muslim Gadzhimagomedov.  |
