WNM Tan remains on lead in Philippine National Women Chess Championship Semi Finals

MANILA---Seventh seed Woman National Master Mary Joy Tan defeated ninth seed Woman National Master Bea Mendoza to remain on top after the 5th round of the Philippine National Women Chess Championship Semifinals at the PACE in Quezon City on Saturday, October 29, 2022.
Tan beat Mendoza in 40 moves of Queen's Pawn Opening using the white pieces, raised her total to perfect 5.0 points.
She is a full-point ahead over Franchesca Largo, Woman National Master April Joy Claros and Woman Fide Master Allaney Jia Doroy who totes 4.0 points each.
Largo trounced Woman National Master Vic Glysen Derotas in 32 moves of Sicilian defense while Claros subdued Marian Calimbo in 34 moves of Rat defense and Doroy nipped Woman National Master Lexie Grace Hernandez in 31 moves of Indian defense.
Mendoza remains at 3.5 points to land at solo fifth place.
The tough, 7-round tournament is organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) in close cooperation with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).
Meanwhile, National Master Jasper Faeldonia and Jerico Santiaguel are sharing the top spot with three points each after three rounds in the 8th NCFP FIDE Rated Chess Tournament.
Faeldonia dismantled Arena International Master Francis Talaboc while Santiaguel edged Sumer Justine Oncita.
