Tyson Fury Makes Plea to Next Opponent PhilBoxing.com Mon, 17 Oct 2022 Tyson Fury isn’t a fighter who does things by halves. The British boxer, keen to line up his next fight, has taken to social media to entice Anthony Joshua into a battle for the WBC heavyweight title. With Oleksandr Usyk unlikely to fight until next year, Fury has made it clear that he wants the next best thing, the chance to take on his fellow countryman in what is already being dubbed the ‘Battle of Britain.’ If the fight is arranged, then you can bet there will be a great deal of interest, not just from the UK but worldwide. It’s the kind of bout that would lead to a global audience of millions clamoring for a ringside seat, and the level of betting action would be equally strong with bets laid everywhere from London to online betting Philippines. It’s also a fight that would suit both individuals greatly. Joshua will be keen to get his career back on track after back-to-back defeats to Usyk and Fury; still unbeaten will feel this is the right time to take him on. 34-year-old Fury, who has a 32-0-1 record, called Joshua out directly; "I think you've all heard that I'm going to be fighting soon within the next few months," "I think that before I announce an opponent, I need to do this just in case.” "Anthony Joshua, I know you've just lost a fight to Usyk, and you're bout-less at the moment, and I'd like to give you an opportunity to fight me for the WBC heavyweight championship of the world and the lineal championship in the next few months," Fury added, before continuing. "You're coming off a 12-round fight, so you're match fit, you're ready. I'm giving you a few months' notice.” "If you're interested, I'll send you the date over, and we can rumble. A battle of Britain for the WBC heavyweight championship of the world.” "Let me know if you're interested; if not, I will select another opponent." Joshua came in for a lot of criticism and attention, not for losing his fight to Usyk but for his erratic behavior following the bout. He gave an impromptu speech after the clash, which the Ukrainian won due to a well-deserved split decision, and then conducted a series of very emotional press conferences. The 32-year-old will now want to rest up and consider his options, and a fight with Fury might be the ideal way to get back into the ring. Joshua responded to the social media announcement swiftly, stating; "Yea calm. I don’t do the online discussions just for clout, so if you're really about it shout 258 MGT [AJ’s management company]. I’ll be ready in December. Khalas.” This would lead boxing fans to believe a clash is likely and it’s one that will create a great deal of buzz and no doubt a fight, likely to take place in England, would be an instant sell-out, and the purse for the fight would be immense, again all the more reason for Joshua and Fury to take each other on. |
