Anthony Joshua Accepts Terms of Likely Tyson Fury Fight PhilBoxing.com Fri, 30 Sep 2022 There were some who felt that Anthony Joshua’s defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, the second in succession, followed by his erratic behavior following the fight, might lead to the British boxer’s likely retirement from the sport. How wrong they were. The 32-year-old was left bruised and beaten after his fight against Usyk in Saudi Arabia last month, but he has been offered a way back into contention. WBC title holder Tyson Fury called out his fellow countryman and gave Joshua the chance of a big match-up later this year, and it’s a chance he has gladly taken, even to the point of accepting reduced terms from what is sure to be a massive spectacle. It’s a fight that will sell out in seconds and will have a television audience of millions; as well as this; the betting action will be immense. If you want to make the most of the clash, then why not use this 22Bet bonus code to sweeten the deal? The only question then is, who should you back? Well, clearly, undefeated Fury, with 32 wins and a draw from his 33 fights, is going to be the favorite, not least because he’ll be facing a fighter who has lost three of his last five contests. As far as the deal for the fight itself, Fury will take 60% of the purse, and Joshua will be left with the remaining 40%, albeit that will still be a hefty sum given the size of the fight, which is already being dubbed the ‘Battle of Britain.’ It’s believed that a November date was initially suggested, but Joshua’s camp have stated that their fighter won’t be ready before December. Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that the deal is now in place; "We just went back this morning and said, I spoke to AJ about that offer; we think, I think particularly, he deserves more than 40 percent.” "But, he's happy. And I don't make the decisions; he does. So I went back this morning and said, 'We accept 60/40'.” "We want that reversed in the rematch, rightfully so because you're champion here; you want the bigger split, which I think is fair.” "And we want to do the fight in December. Now interestingly, they have December 17th, Queensberry held at the Millennium, so that's perfect." Fury wanted to fight Usyk in a unification fight, with the Ukrainian holding the WBA, IBF, and WBO belts, but he wasn’t ready for a fight this year, leaving the Mancunian pushing to meet Joshua instead. The fight will most likely take place at Wembley Stadium, and promoter Frank Warren believes the bout will break the previous domestic record for PPV takings, which currently sits at 2 million sales. It’s sure to be one hell of a contest, and even though Fury is the most likely to emerge victorious, you should not take Joshua lightly, as, at his best, he is a fantastic fighter with the big wins to prove it. He is, after all, a two-time unified world heavyweight champion. |
