Antipolo hosts rapid chess tournament By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Wed, 28 Sep 2022 MANILA---THE Rapid Chess Tournament, organized by Antipolo Youth Chess Club will hit Antipolo City on October 8 to further the development of young kids and uprising woodpushers in the country. Around 150 chess wizards will compete in Non-Master Division at the Walter Mart Antipolo City. “The goal of the event is to help our young chess players here in Antipolo City in particular, and also in the Philippines in general. We want them to become globally competitive not just in this sport but also in their daily lives,” said Filipino and United States chess master Jose Aquino. Aquino is expecting the top non-master players in this region and out-of-town players to come and compete in the said chessfest. The female master players are allowed to join. “This event will surely promote Antipolo City," added Aquino, chess coach of the UAAP Champion National University chess team. The one-day chessfest, which aims to boost the sport grassroots development program, will follow a seven rounds Swiss system format with 15 minutes playing time. The champion will go home P5,000-richer with the second, third and fourth placers out to receive P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000 each.
