PH chess whiz kid Michael Jan Stephen "Bonbon" Rosalem Inigo wins under 17 category tournament in Negros By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Sun, 25 Sep 2022 MANILA---Filipino chess wizard Michael Jan Stephen "Bonbon" Rosalem Inigo proved too strong for his rivals in the 17-under Boys category with a time control of 25 Minutes Plus 5 Seconds Increment. In the just concluded Governor Bong Lacson Invitational Chess Cup Negros Occidental vs Negros Oriental 17 & Under Boys Chess Tournament held at Provincial Capitol, 3rd Floor, Social Hall in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, won all his first five matches and halving the point in the last round to emerge as champion. Inigo scored victories over Kristian Jade Bardinas in the first round, Karl Patrick Bardinas in the second round, Christian Pelione in the third roundNeil Vincent Cena in the fourth round and Dwayne Pahaganas in the fifth round. He split the point with John Laurence Donguines in the sixth and final round. "I'm so happy to win the tournament," said the 14 years old Inigo, a Grade 9 student of Bayawan City Science and Technology Education Center (BCSTEC). "Congratulations my son Michael Jan Stephen "Bonbon" Rosalem Inigo solo champion in Governor Bong Lacson Invitational Chess Cup Negros Occidental vs Negros Oriental 17 & Under Boys Chess Tournament with undefeated score 5.5 out of 6 rounds." said proud mother Jeanshen Rosalem. The two-day tournament (September 24 and 25, 2022) was organized by Abanse Negrense headed by tournament director Harvey Capistrano. National Master Rodolfo "Rudy" Toledo was the chief arbiter in this six round swiss system tournament and assisted by National Arbiter Ernie Abanco.
