Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk Screened Live on Sky Sports Box Office PhilBoxing.com Tue, 23 Aug 2022 The upcoming heavyweight bout between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk was shown live at Sky Sports Box Office on August 20th. The fight offers English fighter Joshua a measure of revenge for his defeat to Ukrainian Usyk and takes place in Saudi Arabia later this month. The eagerly awaited clash will no doubt see a great deal of action at betting sites, with Usyk being the slight favorite. The 35-year-old defeated Joshua at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium thanks to a unanimous points verdict following the fight last September. That win took Usyk’s record to 19-0, while Joshua’s loss was the 32-year-old’s second defeat in his past four fights, having suffered a technical knockout against Andy Ruiz Jr, who he subsequently beat in a rematch. Joshua has a new man in his corner, with Robert Garcia becoming his new trainer as he seeks to become a three-time heavyweight champion as he hopes to reclaim the IBF, WBA, and WBO titles. The fight being screened on Sky Sports Box Office is sure to lead to a great deal of interest in Joshua and is something touched upon by Sky Sports Head of Boxing Development, Adam Smith; "Sky Sports viewers have enjoyed a long history with AJ, watching his every fight since he turned professional in 2013. "We also know Oleksandr Usyk very well, having had the last four of the Ukrainian's fights exclusively live on Sky Sports. "This rematch is a massive occasion with everything on the line and so many questions to be answered. We can't wait to bring it to boxing fans in the UK & Ireland in true Sky Sports fashion with all the build-up it deserves." Both fighters are aware of the importance of the occasion, and neither is under any illusions about what is sure to be a hard-fought fight that will more than likely go the full twelve rounds, with Usyk stating; “I am working hard in my training camp to be in the best shape possible for the rematch. With the help of the Lord, I will overcome the biggest challenges to make it happen. I want the crowd to be excited with the fight; I want them to remember it for a lifetime.” Joshua feels that the location, Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, will play a part in making the fight even grander; "August 20 is set to be an unbelievable night of championship-level boxing. For any sports fan, this is not to be missed; it has all the ingredients to go down in boxing history. Locally I know that boxing has grown massively, and it was great to see thousands of people come to Riyadh for the 'Clash on the Dunes.' I am hoping to see even more in Jeddah in a few weeks’ time." Joshua commented. Meanwhile, fighter Deontay Wilder has set his sights on facing whoever emerges from the fight victorious, that’s despite the American having lost his last two fights, both to Tyson Fury. |
