Jocson, Lorenzo tie for 1st in 2nd Marinduque Rapid Chess Tournament

MANILA---Arena Grandmaster Kimuel Aaron Lorenzo finished in a tie for first place along with eventual champion Richie Jocson at the conclusion of 2nd Marinduque Rapid Chess Tournament held in Provincial Capitol Convention Center in Boac, Marinduque on Saturday (August 20).
Jocson defeated Robert Neil Mataac in the final round, to finish with perfect 5.0 points in five outings, the same output of Lorenzo.
Lorenzo, on the other hand beat Engr. Joseph Ricafrente to catch up with Jocson.
After the tie-break points were applied, Jocson took the championship plus the top purse of P5,000 while Lorenzo wound up in second place for P3,000.
Jocson scored victories over John Robin Mendoza in the first round, Mark Vincent Manalo in the second round, Sergio Mataac in the third round, CK Molinyawe in the fourth round and Robert Neil Mataac in the fifth round.
Marvin Luna trounced Rommel Revilla to settled for third place with 4.5 points and receive P2,000.
Rounding up the top 5 finishers with 4.0 points each were CK Molinyawe and Richard Pelaez to take home P1,000 and P700, respectively.
Special prizes for the category winners will earn P700 each for the top lady Maricar Andrin, top senior Florencio Pastoral and top junior Jamill Monreal.
Meanwhile, Jairus Tarrega tallied perfect 5.0 points to capture the Kiddie Divsion title.
Lenette Sharmaine Oh, John Meneses Jayag, Johann Liam Eclipse and Zeake Adriel Tarrega shared second to fifth placers with 4.0 points each.
Adjudged category winners were Jhenica Requillas (Top lady), Aldrich Diel Rendon (Top Under 12) and Ly Andrei Mataac (Top Under 10).-Marlon Bernardino-
