MELLIGEN FACES SITHPARADORN IN AUSTRALIA ON MAY 2 PhilBoxing.com Wed, 30 Apr 2008 ![]() Former Southeast Asian Games gold medalist and reigning Philippine light welterweight champ Mark Jason ?MJM Grand? Melligen is set to face former WBC Youth interim light welterweight contender Payakchai Sithparadorn on May 2 at the Knox Netball Centre in Victoria, Australia. This fight is expected to bring added entertainment to the Australian audience as fellow Filipino warrior Glen Masicampo squares off with Nigerian bulldozer Oyewale Omotoso who never tasted defeat in his four career fights. Melligen (10-1-0) parades a 70-percent win record by KO in a pro career of only two years this coming April 30. He debuted through an impressive stoppage of fellow starter Rolando Malonhao in the first round in Tagbilaran City, Bohol. His only defeat came under the hand of Korean firepower Yong-Sung Kim in his bid to unseat the reigning interim WBO Asia Pacific light welterweight titlist in February last year. He recovered fast and took the vacant Philippine light welterweight crown despite the opposition waged by Christopher Saluday a mere two months later. From then on, he never lost again. Upcoming opponent Thai Sithparadorn debuted in pro boxing barely two months ahead of Melligen in 2006. He campaigned mostly at the central provinces of Thailand including the northern province of Maehongson. Late last year, he set foot in Portugal to wage war for the WBC Youth interim light welterweight title against Ali Chebah, and proceeded for another battle in Australia. The Melligen-Sithparadorn encounter is expected to last the distance as both fighters are known to carry their bouts to the ending round. The Australian combat is a promotion of Murray Thompson. ![]() |
