SUICO KO?S THAI PATSY

PhilBoxing.com

Orient Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) lightweight champion Randy Suico knocked out a Thai patsy, Songkom Jockygym in the third round of a scheduled ten round bout before a large crowd at the Lapu Lapu City Auditorium , Monday. It was the Thai fighter?s sixth straight defeat.

Among those who watched the fights was Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao whose MP Promotions and Rex ?Wakee? Salud promoted the fight card. Also present were Games and Amusements Board chairman Eric Buhain, commissioner Angel Bautista and boxing division chief Dr. Nasser Cruz.

Also in attendance were Gov. Chavit Singson and the original members of Team Pacquiao - former business manager Rod Nazario, TV boxing analyst Moy Lainez, former training assistant Lito Mondejar who used to carry Pacquiao?s championship belt into the ring before being replaced by the Mayor of Bacolod City and Gerry Garcia

They were there primarily to watch their prot?g?, Philippine flyweight champion Eden Sonsona battle hard-hitting Richard Olisa who is managed and trained by former boxer Aljoe Jaro in the main event, in a title showdown which Olisa won by a split decision.

Lainez told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that Suico who improved his record to 28-3 with 24 knockouts nailed the Thai with a wicked right hook to knock him out cold at 2:10 of round three after Suico himself was staggered by the Thai who Lainez said was ?strong but doesn?t know how to fight.? He said the Thai was picked by Suico?s Japanese manager Joe Koizumi. Songkom entered the ring with a record of 3-14-3 with 1 knockout

Lainez disclosed that Olisa who had scored a stunning second round TKO over world-rated, undefeated Thai Devid Lookmahanak last August 17, 2007 deserved the decision in what he described as a ?good fight.? He said the 19 year old Sonsona ?hurt his left hand in the fifth round which was the same hand he hurt when he fought in South Africa? and was forced to retire in the eighth round of a regional title fight against Silence Mabuza last February 2 after getting up from a knockdown as the bell ended round eight.

Lainez said they would ?first give Sonsona a rest and then have his hand checked? before the defeated champion fights again. With the win Olisa improved to 11-8-4 with 7 knockouts while Sonsona dropped to 14-4 with 3 knockouts.
