All eyes on Sali PhilBoxing.com Wed, 18 May 2022 MANILA---National Master Zulfikar Aliakbar Sali will be the player to watch when the NM Zulfikar Aliakbar Sali 2022 Inter-Cities & Municipalities Chess Team Championship gets going Saturday in SM City Mindpro, Zamboanga City. “I’m hoping for the best but the field is really tough because all participants have a chance to win it also,” said NM Sali, PCAP Director & Team owner of Zamboanga Sultans. Aside from NM Sali, other members of the Zamboanga City chess team are Robick Vohn Villa and King Arado. Backed up by Dr. Fred Paez of Jolly Smile Dental Clinic and St. Peregrine Dental Clinic, the Cabuyao City, Laguna chess team led by International Master Angelo Abundo Young, Rey Aba-a and Julius Ablin. "I’m still confident of our chances,” said Young, an 8-time Illinois USA Champion, is expected to transfer his residency in Cabuyao City. Magay Chess Team, spearheaded by Abdel Hassan, Abdulkalip Daggung and Abdulbaki Majid, and, Batangas City Chess Team bannered by Jiggy Miguel Vicente, Manolo Puertellano and John Ajero head the teams fighting it out for top honors in the tournament sponsored by NM Zulfikar Sali - PCAP Director & Team owner of Zamboanga Sultans and Dr. Vangie Espiritu-Sali of Sahaya Dermatology Clinic in Zamboanga City in partnership with the SM Mindpro ZC, GrenEnergy Power, Ms. Ruby Chua, Mind Movers.Ph Chess Club, and Sir Christian Arrieta of Malasakit at Bayanihan Party list. Lapu-Lapu City Chess Team is expected to go all the way with Bryle Arellano, Jimmy Ty Jr. and Rosendo Yamyamin at the helm while Toledo City Chess Team is fielding Rommel Ganzon, Bonn Rainaud Tibod and Jerome Cabantan. The other fancied teams in the event are National Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca's Panabo City, Ryan Dungca's Manila and Sherwin Tiu's Ligon-San Jose City. It will be an eleven round Swiss system format applying 15 minutes plus 10 seconds increment. The team champion will earn P50,000. The second placer will get P30,000, third P20,000, fourth P15,000 and fifth P10,000. Sixth to 10th placers will receive P9,000, P8,000, P7,000, P6,000 and P5,000, respectively.
