Chester Neil Reyes wins Maharlika Chess Tour By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Mon, 09 May 2022 MANILA---Chester Neil Reyes of Rodriguez, Rizal scored a crucial win over Ellan Asuela of Bacolod City, Negros Occidental in the eleventh and final round to claim the championship of the 2nd Maharlika Chess Tour 2022 Online Blitz Tournament virtually held at lichess platform Sunday, May 8, 2022. After losing to National Master Rommel Ganzon of Cebu in the fifth round, Reyes bounced back with aplomb to down Asuela in his last assignment. That was all Reyes needed to nail the title with the highest output of 10.0 points, the same output of Vince Angelo Medina of Cabuyao City, Laguna whom he beat in the tie break points. He pocketed P10,000 for his efforts while the latter received P5,000. "I just tried to play my best and now I am really happy," said Reyes, one of the top players of Costbusters Philippines Corporation Chess Team under the guidance of PH Chess God Father Billy Joe Ereno. Fide Master Alekhine Nouri of Escalante City, Negros Occidental and National Master Merben Roque of Cebu City got P3,000 and P2,000 for winding up third and fourth, respectively who totes 9.5 points apiece. Rounding up to the top 10 finishers were National Master Merben Roque of Cebu City (fifth), International Master Michael Concio Jr. of Dasmarinas City, Cavite (sixth), Fide Master David Elorta of Manila (seventh), National Master Bryle Arellano of Lapu-Lapu City (eight) , National Master Fritz Bryan Porras of Iloilo City (ninth) and National Master Henry Roger Lopez of Panabo City, Davao del Norte (tenth). Adjudged Category winners were AGM Irwin Aton (Top Executive), NM Marlon Bernardino, (Top Media), FM Sander Severino (Top PWD), Yssabelle Semillano (Top Lady), Nephira Marilag (Top Unrated), NM Gerardo Cabellon (Top Senior), NM Mark Jay Bacojo (Top Junior) and Keith Adriane Ilar (Top Kiddy).
