2-Time World Champion Kenia Enriquez Comes Back in Main Event on Combate Space

PhilBoxing.com

From the 5-star Krystal Grand Hotel and Resort in Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, Mexico, the two-time world champion Kenia Enriquez (23-1, 9KO) comes back to take on the tough Gabriela “La Bonita” Sánchez (8-4, 0KO) in the 10 round flyweight main event presented by TM Boxing in association with Grito de Guerra Promotions. The televised three-bout fight card will be broadcast live on the Combate Space program on the Space network all over Latin America.

“This a great main event, two world-class fighters with a bit of history facing each other,” Eric Ibarra, Director of Operations for TM Boxing stated. “Kenia is looking to get into world title contention and ‘La Bonita’ is a tough test to see where she is at. The rest of the card is a solid one with Cirilo vs. Vega for a title and two undefeated in Mercado and Peña.”

The fight is the second attempt to make it after Enriquez missed weight last November for the WBC interim light flyweight world title and the bout was scratched.

“That was a mistake by myself and my team,” Enriquez of Tijuana, Baja California, explained. “No excuses, I have realized at 28-years-old I can’t make the 108-pound limit anymore. I am looking towards the future and looking to earn a world title opportunity.”

Afterwards, Sanchez was not too happy going to social media and posting a scathing video alluding to Enriquez’s lack of professionalism.

“I have made weight in all of my previous fights, 24 of them without an issue,” Enriquez stated. “I understand her frustration but this is a new day, I am just glad we can settle things inside the ring.”

Enriquez is a two-time world champion capturing her first title, the WBO flyweight strap, with a lopsided unanimous decision over veteran Ana Arrazola and her second, the interim WBC light flyweight title, via a third round TKO over Maria Salinas in 2017.

Sanchez, 28, of Puebla, Puebla, has not captured a world title yet but has challenged twice, the first time in 2019 coming up short via a unanimous decision for the WBA light flyweight title against Yesica “Tutti” Bopp and in 2020 for the WBC flyweight title losing another unanimous decision against Ibeth "Roca” Zamora. She owns wins against world title challenger Paulette Valenzuela and former interim WBA light flyweight world champion Silvia Torres.

“She’s an experienced fighter, like I said before, I look forward to facing her,” Enriquez shared. “I think she is a good measuring stick to see where I am at after two and a half years of inactivity. I am ready.”

In the semi-main event, Villa de Alvarez, Colima’s Jose Juan “Pacheco” Cirilo (11-2, 10KO) will take on Daniel “El Muñeco” Vega (16-5-1, 13KO) of Mexicali, Baja California, for the vacant WBC USNBC super welterweight title while in an explosive scheduled welterweight eight rounder undefeated Daniel “Bebe” Mercado (11-0, 8KO) of Tijuana, Baja California will test his mettle against fellow unbeaten Eduardo Daniel Peña (10-0-1, 3KO) of Guadalajara, Jalisco, in the tv opener.

Broadcast on the Space Network Facebook page, La Paz, Baja California Sur’s Raúl “Marinerito” Mendoza (3-1, 3KO) faces Alexis “Pinky” Silva (3-0, 2KO) in a super bantamweight 4 rounder and in another battle of unbeatens, welterweight Yahir “Bam Bam” Diaz (1-0, 1KO) of Guadalajara, Jalisco, goes against local Carlos Garcia (1-0, 0KO) of San Vicente, Nayarit.
