2-Time World Champion Kenia Enriquez Signs with Advisors TM Boxing

PhilBoxing.com

The two-time world champion Kenia Enriquez (23-1, 9KO) of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, recently signed with advisors TM Boxing, also of Tijuana, to lead her career from this point forward. The #1 ranked WBC flyweight is slated to return to the ring at the end of May in an eight rounder in Mexico. Despite the agreement, Kenia remains a promotional free agent.

“I am very happy with this next step in my career,” the 28-year-old Enriquez said with a smile. “I’ve known the partners of TM Boxing for a long time and I have seen the way they work, honestly, ethically and with respect for the fighters, and I am excited about how we are going to work together in the future.”

“For TM Boxing it is a pleasure to work as advisors for a fighter like Kenia Enriquez, a world champion in two divisions,” Eric Ibarra, President of TM Boxing, stated. “Together we will look for the best options to develop her career as well as primarily another world title opportunity and a relationship with a new promoter.”

Enriquez joins a team that also boasts of the current WBC Youth world welterweight champion Isaac “La Bestia” Lucero, the current WBC FECOMBOX welterweight champion Isaias “Bestia Jr” Lucero and multi-time world title challenger Abraham “Choko” Rodriguez among others.

The technically sound Enriquez captured her first world title, the WBO flyweight strap, with a lopsided unanimous decision over Ana Arrazola in 2014. In the summer of 2017 she captured her second, the interim WBC light flyweight world title, with a 3rd round TKO of Maria Salinas.

Enriquez has not seen action since January of 2020 when she defended the WBC strap for the fourth time against Japan’s Chaoz Minowa. That summer she joined the 4th season of the reality show Exalton USA on Telemundo. The sports reality format features two teams of athletes competing in highly challenging tests to find the strongest, fastest and most competitive of the show.

Unfortunately, after a couple of months of competition, Enriquez suffered an injury to her right knee. Surgery and rehabilitation have kept her outside of the ring.

“Participating on the show was challenging but I enjoyed it, unfortunately I suffered that injury,” she explained. “I have recuperated better than expected and I don’t feel any physical repercussions of the injury. It’s like it never happened.”

Now the #1-ranked flyweight by the WBC is ready to get back into world title contention.

“I want the champion, Marlen Esparza, obviously I can’t imagine challenging her after two and a half years of inactivity, I respect her ability,” she stated. “We have some history together, after my comeback fight I have no problem facing her for the world title. I hope she accepts the challenge or if not, the WBC forces her to defend against me.”
