OMANZ TAKES ON BA-AT ON APRIL 30 FOR RP BANTAM SUPREMACY PhilBoxing.com Wed, 16 Apr 2008 ALA Promotions has announced today that Balamban, Cebu is about to witness an entertaining encounter between two of the country?s fast rising Philippine pugilists come April 30. ALA Gym prospect and RP No. 7 bantamweight Jomanz Omanz is set to collide against RP No. 2 bantamweight Jonathan Ba-at of the RWS Stable in a bid to pave the way towards the top post in the Philippine bantamweight division. Omanz parades an immaculate record of 11 wins with 6 by way of knockout. Rising from his roots in Mandaue City, he debuted in pro boxing on October 3, 2006 by stopping fellow starter Jomar Cabusas in the first round, and so far had been successful from avoiding any blemish in his performance. While he campaigned most of the time near home, he has also gone as far as the cities of Tagbilaran and Quezon. He had provided entertainment to mall-goers in promotions held in commercial centers in the provinces of Cebu and Bohol. Ba-at fought eight fights in his career shy of three years, snatching the MINPROBA bantamweight title on Aug 11, 2006 from reigning Jerry Manganip through a technical decision. He was leading in points when the referee stopped the fight in round 7 on account of the 4-inch gash on his left eyebrow caused by an accidental headbutt with Manahip. His first-three career straight wins earned him a slot in 2006 to challenge reighing PABA super bantamweight king Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym of Bangkok where he took his first professional defeat by knockout. His ambitious campaign stretched far to the shores of Japan and Thailand. In the Philippines, he has fought as far as Palawan, Digos, and Zamboanga del Norte. Also seeing action are Roli Gasca of ALA Gym against Nelson Llanus of Yu Stable (Butuan City) and James Bacon, also an ALA Gym prospect, fighting Sammy Surdilla of Tony Dacer Stable (Davao City). Rey Villar of Sultan Kudarat will also face off with Jumar Cabusas of Butuan City as Mark Jesson Taroja opens the event with a six-rounder with Leyte?o Lowell Saguisa. The boxing event is being organized as part of the celebration and entertainment during the birthday of Balamban mayor Alex Binghay who is also an avid boxing supporter. |
