SHOWTIME SPORTS® OFFERS FIRST LOOK AT VIDEO FEATURE SHOWCASING TIM TSZYU’S PATH TO MUCH-ANTICIPATED UNITED STATES DEBUT TONIGHT ON SHOWTIME PhilBoxing.com Sun, 27 Mar 2022 Interview Conducted by Al Bernstein Will Air on Tonight’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® Telecast Beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT NEW YORK – March 26, 2022 – SHOWTIME Sports has released an exclusive interview showcasing Tim Tszyu’s unique path from watching his father fight on SHOWTIME as a young child to being on the precipice of making his own highly-anticipated network and United States debut and in the process stepping out of his dad’s shadow as a top contender. Tszyu, the son of former undisputed 140-pound world champion and International Boxing Hall of Famer Kostya, takes on rugged veteran Terrell Gausha tonight, Saturday March 26 live on SHOWTIME at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT from The Armory in Minneapolis. https://youtu.be/v1FXXDrc4BM. “Every son sees their father as a super hero, my dad was actually a real-life super hero,” says Tszyu in the interview conducted by SHOWTIME’s Hall of Fame analyst Al Bernstein of Kostya who fought on SHOWTIME 10 times. “I’m super proud as a son of what my dad did. But at the same time, this is my own career and I’ve always wanted to step away from that shadow to be known not just as Kostya Tszyu’s son but I want to be known as Tim Tszyu. It’s taken years and years of work.” Tszyu, a hugely popular figure in his native Australia, built up a perfect record of 20-0 with 15 KOs in his home country, including a TKO over former world champion Jeff Horn. He’s now eager to make his stateside debut in impressive fashion and showcase why he deserves to be next in line to face the winner of the upcoming Jermell Charlo-Brian Castano showdown for undisputed status on May 14 on SHOWTIME. “There’s plenty of big fights to be made and it’s quite exciting,” says Tszyu, who is ranked No. 1 by the WBO and No. 3 by the IBF and WBC at 154 pounds. “I’m at a good age as well, 27 years old, I still haven’t reached my peak. There’s so much to learn and there’s so much to know that it’s a never-ending story. This is the new chapter and it begins now.” The video feature will air on tonight’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® telecast that also features rising lightweight contender Michel Rivera vs. fellow unbeaten Joseph “Blessed Hands” Adorno in the co-main event, plus hard-hitting super lightweight Elvis Rodriguez taking on Juan Velasco in the telecast opener. Veteran sportscaster Brian Custer will host the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast while International Boxing Hall of Famer Barry Tompkins steps in to handle blow-by-blow duties alongside fellow Hall of Fame analyst Al Bernstein and three-division world champion Abner Mares. Two more Hall of Famers are part of the most decorated telecast team in all of boxing: Emmy-Award winning event announcer Jim Gray as ringside reporter and boxing historian Steve Farhood as unofficial scorer. The versatile Michael C. Williams is the in-ring announcer. The executive producer is four-time Emmy® award winner David Dinkins, Jr. The director is Bob Dunphy, son of legendary Hall of Famer Don Dunphy. Former junior middleweight world champion Raúl “El Diamante” Marquez and sportscaster Alejandro Luna serve as expert analysts in Spanish on Secondary Audio Programming (SAP).
