Suelo rules Rillo Cup chessfest

MANILA---Fide Master Robert Suelo Jr. added another feather to his cap by winning the Hon. Marvin C. Rillo Chess Cup at the Barangay Hall, Barangay San Martin De Porres, Cubao, Quezon City Monday, March 21, 2022.
Suelo, who is best remembered for his splendid performance as a mainstay of the Rizal Technological University, finished with six points to claim the title and the cash prize of P1,500.
“I’m happy to win again. Maganda kundisyon kaya maganda din ang laro ko ngayon,” said Suelo, one of the top players of Quezon City Simba's Tribe under the watchful eye of Team Owner Danilo Ponay.
Candidate Master Master Genghis Imperial came second with similar 6.0 points.
Imperial brought home P1,000 in this event hosted by Hon. Rillo in close cooperation with coun. Imee Rillo, coun. Raquel Malangen,coun. Ariel Inton, Barangay chairman Mervin Viray and Barangay kagawad Meng Ronquillo, organized by Bayanihan Chess Club.
Noel Jay Estacio shared third to seventh places with 5.0 points with National Master Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr., Michael Mallari, Mark Louie Velasco and National Master Jasper Faeldonia.
Nixon Reyes and Jerome Alcodia shared eight to ninth places finished with identical scores of 4.5 points.
Adjudged as category winners were Abraham Tecson, Rogelio Baccay and Roger Abisan (top seniors), Jerick Faledonia, Ryzia Lei Zheysha Suelo and Ysha Royz Suelo (top kiddies), Ayesha Guanzon, Precious Queenie Manalastas, Merlinda Suelo and Jolina Icao (top ladies), Bong de Leon, Allan Morallos, Leonard Cabreros and Ramon Montarde (top San Martin de Porres).-Marlon Bernardino-
