Joshua has Options Amidst Usyk Confusion

Concerns over Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk and his immediate future has left his proposed rematch with Anthony Joshua in some doubt. While we all must hope to see Usyk settled and back in the ring as soon as possible, it also raises the question of Joshua’s next move.

The British heavyweight remains positive as he looks ahead to an uncertain few weeks. If the rematch doesn’t take place, there will be other fighters ready to take a shot at AJ.

It will be tricky, but we would assume that Anthony Joshua will be continuing his preparations to take on Oleksandr Usyk. It will be a tough battle for the English Olympic Gold Medalist who lost out to the Ukrainian when they first met.

Despite the uncertainty over what happens next, Anthony Joshua is very upbeat about the situation. The former WBO, IBF, and IBO, WBA World heavyweight champion has said that he is ready to take anyone on this year.

AJ was also reluctant to go into details about specific fighters but the media have stepped in to do all the speculation for him. One name that has been mentioned in more gossip columns than most is that of Otto Wallin. Swedish fighter Wallin could prove to be a tough opponent as he looks to improve on an impressive, 23-1 record.

That solitary defeat came against Tyson Fury so Joshua would be aware that Wallin is competitive but beatable. Elsewhere, it’s been claimed that Anthony Joshua has been offered about with Joe Joyce should the rematch with Oleksandr Usyk fall through.

Another British boxer, 36-year-old Joyce enjoyed a successful amateur career before finally turning professional in 2017. Since then, he’s fought 13 times and won every single bout. 12 of those victories came by knockout and, while Joyce is a left-field suggestion, he could offer a serious test.

All will be confirmed in the coming weeks. The possibility of AJ taking on Oleksandr Usyk in that highly anticipated rematch is still on. If, however, the two men need to reschedule, there will be no shortage of boxers ready to step in and offer Anthony Joshua a tough challenge in the interim.
