SHOWTIME SPORTS® OFFERS FIRST LOOK AT VIDEO FEATURE SHOWCASING THE RUSSELL FAMILY BOXING DYNASTY AHEAD OF TONIGHT’S WBC FEATHERWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BETWEEN GARY RUSSELL JR. AND MARK MAGSAYO PhilBoxing.com Sat, 22 Jan 2022  The Three-Minute Feature Will Air on Tonight’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® Telecast NEW YORK – January 22, 2022 – SHOWTIME Sports has released a video feature showcasing the deep boxing pedigree of the Russell family ahead of Gary Russell Jr.’s WBC Featherweight World Championship main event bout against unbeaten top challenger Mark Magsayo tonight, January 22 live on SHOWTIME at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT from Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, N.J. in a Premier Boxing Champions event. “I love being able to showcase my skillset and what it is that I bring,” says Russell Jr. in the video feature that includes rare 2015 footage from brothers Gary Antonio, Gary Antuanne and Gary Allen Russell III. “That makes it even easier for me to give back to my younger brothers. To be able to give them some of the jewels in which that I gathered from the sport. A lot of information and a lot of knowledge. It’s only right to pass it on.” Gary Russell Jr., along with current undefeated professionals Gary Antonio and Gary Antuanne, are all trained by the patriarch of the Russell family, Gary Russell Sr., who has battled serious health issues during his son’s latest training camp. “This has honestly been my toughest training camp,” Russell Jr. says. “My father has been in and out of the hospital. He honestly couldn’t really be in the camp the way that I wanted him to. His health still isn’t the best and it makes me push a little harder just for that. I’m just glad that at least he’s able to still be here and be apart of what he started. To be able to witness how everything is unfolding right in front of him.” The three-minute video feature will air on tonight’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® telecast that also features a 12-round rematch between super lightweight contenders Subriel Matías and Petros Ananyan in the co-main event and hard-hitting featherweight Tugstsogt Nyambayar squaring off against Sakaria Lukas in the 10-round telecast opener. Veteran sportscaster Brian Custer will host the telecast, leading the most experienced announce team in boxing. Versatile combat sports voice Mauro Ranallo will handle the blow-by-blow action alongside Hall of Fame analyst Al Bernstein and three-division world champion Abner Mares. Former junior middleweight world champion Raúl “El Diamante” Márquez and seasoned boxing reporter Alejandro Luna will serve as expert analysts in Spanish on Secondary Audio Programming (SAP). Three Hall of Famers round out the telecast team, with Emmy® Award-winning event announcer Jim Gray, boxing historian Steve Farhood serving as unofficial scorer and world-renowned ring announcer Jimmy Lennon, Jr. The executive producer is four-time Emmy award winner David Dinkins, Jr., who has been guiding SHOWTIME Sports flagship series SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING since its inception in 1986.
