TAPALES DROPS TESHIGAWARA THRICE EN ROUTE TO A SECOND ROUND STOPPAGE WIN
PhilBoxing.com Sun, 12 Dec 2021
Former Filipino world champion Marlon Tapales knocked down Hiroaki Teshigawara of Japan twice in the first round and once in the second round to win by knockout in their IBF superbantam title eliminator on the undercard of the Nonito Donaire vs Reymart Gaballo WBC bantamweight championship at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California Saturday night (Sunday in Manila).
Tapales is now looking to challenge the champion Murodjon Akhmadaliev (10-0-0, 7KOs) of Uzbekistan who won the IBF belt (and the WBA belt) on Jan. 30, 2020 from Daniel Roman and since then has defended twice.
Tapales, the former WBO bantamweight champion, has now won two in a row since his loss to Ryosuke Iwasa two years ago in New York and is now 35-3-0, 18KOs.
“I prepared really well for this fight but I’m still shocked that I stopped him that early. I prepared really well," Tapales said after his abbreviated win. "Now I’m ready for the title shot. I want to get back in there soon."
Teshigawara who fights for the first time outside in his home country of Japan, is the OPBF champion since 2018. He was also the former WBO Asia-Pacific champion. His record now stands at 23-3-2, 15KOs.
Tapales drops Teshigawara.
