This is his second shot at a world title, and Paradero is determined not to fail again. * * * Confident that he was ahead on points, Paradero slowed down in the finishing rounds, which gave Victorio Saludar a split decision win in their battle for the WBA minimum weight crown on February 20 in Biñan, Laguna. * * * In the early rounds, Paradero was aggressive and was on the offensive while Saludar fought a more technical fight. Two judges scored the bout 116-112 and 115-113 for Saludar while the other saw it 118-110 for Paradero. * * * Paradero suffered his first loss and chased for a rematch but it was not realized. Then came the offer to fight Niyomtrong for the WBA “super” minimum weight title. * * * Paradero, alias "Inggo" has learned his lesson and this time he will be facing an unbeaten champion in Niyomtrong alias Knockout CP Freshmart, in the 12-rounder fight in hostile territory in Thailand. Niyomtrong is unbeaten in 22 bouts with eight knockouts. * * * Paradero has a career record of 18 wins with 12 knockouts with one loss, and flew to Thailand on December 7 with his coach Jojo Singsing. He was born in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon and currently resides. * * * Paradero has fought 98 rounds with a KO rate of 63.16% per BoxRec. I was so disappointed in my last fight," Paradero told Cebu Daily News. "I will make up for my loss and I will entertain them (Thai fans) and give them a good fight)." * * * In his last fight, Niyomtrong, also an orthodox boxer, scored a technical knockout win in the third round over countryman Sirideck Deebook to retain his WBA "super" world minimumweight title last October 5 at the Chang Arena in Buriram, Thailand. * * * The unbeaten WBA minimumweight champion recorded his ninth successful defense of the title following a third-round technical knockout win over Deebook. Niyomtrong floored the taller Deebook in round two and twice in round three, the last drop prompted the referee to stop the match in Buriram, Thailand. * * * Niyomtrong has not fought since the pandemic, with his title defense versus Deebook delayed due to the Covid-19 emergency in Thailand. * * * The KO win is the first for Niyomtrong since March 2017, scoring two knockdowns in a fifth round stoppage of Go Odaira. It was the only title fight not going to the scorecards for Niyomtrong before the Deebook fight. * * * Paradero won the vacant WBO Asia Pacific youth minimumweight title defeating Ronie Tanallon by unanimous decision on October 28, 2016. * * * An 18-year-old Paradero made his professional debut on August 16, 2014 against Jason Sanchez by unanimous decision. * * * After the Golden State Warriors snapped the Phoenix Suns' record 18-game winning streak, the Spurs routed them 112-107 win to cut the Warriors' 11-game home winning streak. San Antonio's young players led by as many as 22 points, as Stephen Curry had a poor shooting, starting 1 for 15 from the field and 1 for 8 from 3-point range. * * * Internationally, the highest single player total score in between national teams is 116 points, scored by the Philippines' Lou Salvador in May 1923 against China. It happened during the 1923 Far Eastern Games. |
