Reyes is just one of 5 players with perfect scores so far including top seeds International Masters Denis Lavazuk of Belarus and American prodigy Christopher Yoo, Fide Master Maxim Tsaruk also of Belarus and Ruben Fernandez Lopez of Spain.
Seeded 91st in this tournament that drew 190 of the world’s best Under 16 years old chess players, Reyes, the pride of Rodriguez, Rizal has racked up 4 consecutive wins against highly rated opponents including back to back wins last night against Russian Kirin Pitrenko and Indonesian Candidate Master Aditya Arden in rounds 3 and 4.
“Chester is really underrated and he is showing in this tournament that he is one of the world’s best top junior players. He just needs a break and more exposure and I think this will be his breakthrough in an international tournament, said Coach Richard Villaseran, founder of King’s Gambit Chess School, where Reyes trains from time to time.
"Chester was already very strong when he started with us so we just try to help him in some aspects of his game. whenever he attends our advanced/masters class. We really believe that he has what it takes to be a grandmaster in the near future," added Villaseran.-Marlon Bernardino-
