SPORTS SHORTS 12: TYSON PREDICTS MAYWEATHER WIN BUT ORTIZ BELIEVES FLOYD WILL HAVE TROUBLE WITH PAUL

PhilBoxing.com

Floyd Mayweather Jr., a former five division world champion with a perfect 50-0 with 27 KOs record, is scheduled to face Paul in an exhibition match on February 20, 2021 and the venue is yet to be announced. The 43-year-old Mayweather of Grand Rapids, Michigan is an overwhelming favorite to beat the 25-year-old Paul from Westlake, Ohio. But, Paul is much bigger physically with six to seven inches in height and at least 50-pounds in weight advantage.

Former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has predicted Floyd Mayweather wil shatter his YouTuber Paul’s face when they clash. "The Baddest Man on the Planet" Tyson made the chances of the YouTuber nil when he declared Floyd would crash him. A former pound-for-pound king of the world and at the same time a Hall of Fame boxer is expected to batter an untalented internet combat star.

Tyson will be back in the ring for another exhibition at the age of 54 probably in the first six months of 2021. His exhibition match with Roy Jones Jr. broke into the top ten US Pay Per Views of all time. It is a sign of what fans would like to see in boxing presently. Tyson vs. Jones Jr. overtook every single PPV since Mayweather vs. McGregor and sold more buys than all non-heavyweight PPV since Terence Crawford vs. Amir Khan, including Manny Pacquiao vs. Keith Thurman. Mayweather believes he has a chance of breaking the 4.6m US PPV buys of their fight with Pacquiao in 2015.

Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz, wno was defeated by Mayweather on September 17, 2011, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, believes his former foe, the undefeated former pound-for-pound king will have trouble with his upcoming fight with Youtube star Paul.

"I know what I know, and I know what I see,” Ortiz said. “What I’m saying, in a sense, is that he will give Floyd trouble. I’m telling you, it’s going to be an interesting fight. I’ve talked to him about Floyd a few times. ... I give him the simple things: ‘Floyd is Floyd, but you’re unstoppable. You’re on another level.’ I strongly believe Floyd will have trouble. Logan can box, and he has power, reach speed, and he can move now."

During his encounter with Ortiz, Mayweather used his hand speed and excellent skills to control in the first three rounds with the judges scoring 30–27, 30–27, 29–28 all for Mayweather. But in the fourth round, Ortiz began his move and with his new found strength connected some few punches. Ortiz then hit Mayweather in the face in what appeared to be a headbutt, causing Referee Joe Cortez to penalize Ortiz for the foul. Ortiz accepted his violation and hugged Mayweather. Cortez signaled for the resumption of the fight.

The fighters touched gloves and Mayweather and Ortiz again hugged Mayweather. Then, with Cortez not looking at Mayweather, and as the fighters separated themselves from the hug, Mayweather punched Ortiz with a left hook. Ortiz was astounded by the punch which hit him to the face when his hands were still down and unable to defend himself. Ortiz fell into the canvas unable to beat Cortez's count. It was a controversial fourth-round knockout win for Mayweather.

For the first time since 2015, Saul "Canelo' Alvarez is no longer possessing a middleweight title. The WBA’s newest rankings showed that the Mexican superstar has vacated his WBA “super” belt, which he last defended against Daniel Jacobs last May 2019. Alvarez (54-1-2, 36 KO) is targeting a unification at super-middleweight division, where he claimed the WBC and WBA “super” titles with a very convincing unanimous decision over Callum Smith last month.

One of the BWAA Fighter of the Year nominees, Gervonta Davis, age 26, from Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A. is a four-time world champion in two weight classes. He held the WBA (Regular) lightweight title since 2019, and the WBA (Super) super featherweight title since October 2020. He was previously the IBF super featherweight titlist in 2017 and the WBA (Super) super featherweight title holder from 2018 to 2019.

Making his PPV debut on October 31, 2020, Davis successfully defended his lightweight title against Leo Santa Cruz at The Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The fight happened before more than 9,000 fans in attendance. In round 6, Davis hit Santa Cruz with a sharp uppercut and Santa Cruz was immediately floored to the canvas. The referee stopped the fight and Davis retained his title and also grabbing up the WBA Super Featherweight Title. His pro record is now 24-0 with 23 knockouts.
