Last Mexican Trainer of the 20th Century Lupe Serrano Passes Away

This Friday, November 13, Passes away Lupe Serrano, the last of the trainers of the 20th century, from the golden age of Mexican boxing of great trainers such as Arturo "Cuyo" Hernández, Lupe Sanchez, Pancho Rosales, Cristóbal Rosas," El Negro" Pérez, Lázaro Ayala, Chucho Cuate, Agustín Palacios and Pepe Morales among others.
Serrano started boxing as an amateur boxer in the 1940s but was unable to make his professional debut and over time was an assistant trainer of the renowned "Lupe" Sánchez with whom he lived a great stage of his life in boxing until 1953.
Serrano was present at some point in the careers of Israel Vasquez and Amado “Panterita” Ursúa, as well as the Puerto Rican Wilfredo Benítez and the Venezuelan Betulio González. He was part of the Mexican stars Jose Medel, Ricardo “Pajarito” Moreno, Enrique Jupiter, Mauro Vázquez, Valentín “Duende” Martínez and Oscar Arciniega among others.
Lupe Serrano Flores was going to turn 98 years old on December 16.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the departure of Don Lupe Serrano, great manager of the golden age of Mexican boxing,” said WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán.
