SEN. PACQUIAO URGES FILIPINOS: CONTINUE SUPPORTING THE CURRENT LEADERSHIP By Aquiles Z. Zonio PhilBoxing.com Tue, 28 Jul 2020 GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Sen. Manny Pacquiao on Monday urged fellow Filipinos to continue supporting the Duterte administration amidst the Covid-19 pandemic and other problems besetting the country. Pacquiao reminded us to respect and obey the governing authorities by quoting the Bible, particularly Romans 13:1-4, which says “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer.” “Ramdam ko ang bigat ng problema ng ating bansa. Mabuti na lang at natutugunan ang pangangailangan ng ating mga kababayan na direktang apektado pati na ang ating OFWs at ang kanilang pamilya,” Pacquiao said. Pacquiao, who is currently based here together with his whole family, attended in the opening of the Senate regular session in the morning and President Duterte’s State of the Nation Address late in the afternoon via Zoom Monday. “This pandemic is a test of our strength and resilience as a people. We learn a lot of lessons from this season. Natuto tayong maging flexible, mag-adjust at maging resilient. May mga pagkukulang an gating gobyerno kaya kailangan nating magtulungan,” Pacquiao stressed. Pacquiao encouraged Filipinos to seek God’s wisdom in discerning unfolding events, including challenges, around us. “Wisdom is a gift from God through the Holy Spirit. You can be knowledgeable but still wanting of wisdom. We need wisdom from God to live a happy and meaningful life,” Pacquiao said. The Mindanaoan senator bared that he has pending bills in the Senate on the creation of the Department of OFWs, Department of Resilience, Department of Water Resources and reinstatement of death penalty for heinous crimes involving illegal drugs. In his Sona, President Duterte made mention about the need to push the same measures to let the country leapfrog towards greater heights of economic and political development. The boxer-lawmaker vowed to push for the approval of his proposed measures now pending in the Senate. “I will keep pushing for measures that will promote better public services,” Pacquiao said. He believes that through prayers and by God’s grace we will overcome the Covid-19 scourge and cope with the many trials that we are confronting as a nation.
