Boxing Seniors Tour in the Offing: Would You Rather Watch Youtube?

PhilBoxing.com

Mike Tyson is determined to make a comeback and old rival, figuratively and literally, Evander Holyfield is willing to be his dance partner for the third time in nearly thirty years.

How about that, folks?

Tyson and Holyfield battled each other twice in the 1990s with the undisputed heavyweight championship title on the line with Evander winning the first by stoppage and the second, rather inconclusively by disqualification on account of Iron Mike repeatedly biting his ear.

There's an unfinished business, somehow. But will that be enough for the boxing fans to watch a third fight live, with all the health related safety hassles, or on television via pay per view?

The younger or newly introduced boxing fans may be curious enough to buy a seat or a pay per view subscription or legally stream the fight.

The older fans, however, may be more predisposed to watch their old fights on youtube for free and wait for the third fight to get uploaded there afterwards.

But who knows, the way most younger heavyweights are posturing and tarrying in avoidance of each other, the fans may be lured to a seniors tour fight between two proven old ring warriors who are willing to go at it again to make a statement between them and to the boxing public.

Meanwhile, former world champions Sergio 'Maravilla' Martinez and Marcos Maidana are reportedly set to also make a comeback in an all-Argentine clash that was not possible a decade back because of weight disparity.

In their respective prime, Martinez fought at super welterweight and middleweight while Chino Maidana made his mark as a super lightweight and welterweight.

Maravilla (The Marvelous One) made a name by beating Kelly Pavlik and in his rivalry with Paul Williams who reminded fans of Thomas Hearns with his physical attributes, and woefully, his main weakness. He held the middleweight crown for a considerable length of time but hobbled by injuries fell prey to a resurgent Miguel Cotto in 2012.

Maidana, considered as among the hardest punchers of all time, made the headlines by stopping a rampaging Victor Ortiz, nearly decapitating Amir Khan in a highly disputed losing title bid and engaging in a war against a resurrected Erik Morales, all at super lightweight.

But Chino made a bigger splash by mauling and coming close to inflicting Floyd Mayweather his first official pro boxing defeat in two near misses world title attempts at welterweight.

Martinez retired from boxing after the Cotto loss and Maidana went into long inactivity following his losses to Floyd in 2014.

Chino's weight ballooned to that of a cruiserweight with his semi retirement but he has steadily cut it down since more than a year ago when he expressed desire to fight Manny Pacquiao. It seems though that he can no longer cut it down below the middleweight level.

Hence when Martinez annoynced he was making a comeback, Chino offered himself as his opposite.

This one offers a better storyline that could intrigue and interest boxing fans in Argentina and beyond.

It has the potentials to trigger a resurgence in boxing in Argentina which was a pro boxing powerhouse from the early days through the 2000s but has not a single world champion at present.
