SPORTS TRIVIA 4: SOR RUNGVISAI AND LUIS NERY'S VICTORIES

PhilBoxing.com

WBC super flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai failed to knockout Iran ?MagnifiKO? Diaz in his ONE FC debut, but he was so dominant in the twelve rounds of action enroute to a lopsided unanimous decision win.

Sor Rungvisai (47-4-1, 41 KO) attacked the body in the early rounds and Diaz (14-3-3, 6 KO) was unable to match the champ's lethal offensive. Sor Rungvisai won 34 of 36 rounds on the three judges? combined scorecards. The scores are 119-109, 120-108 and 119-109.

Sor Rungvisai started from rags and as a 13 year old street kid in Bangkok he walked 60 miles to a grocery store, where he was was hired pick up trash. The wage was so minimal, and he has to scavenge scraps from the garbage to earn for something to eat.

Because of poverty, as almost every boxer suffers, he joined a boxing gym and his life improved. He had a poor 1-3-1 start as a professional fighter, but he was not discouraged, being very hopeful that someday boxing would rescue him out of extreme difficulties in life.

Luis "Pantera" Nery was just too powerful as he knocked out Jason "Dillinger" Canoy in the third round of the main event last Saturday at the Gasmart Stadium in Tijuana, Mexico before his cheering countrymen chanting "Nery, Nery" starting his entrance towards the ring.

The former world champion, Nery (27-0-0, 21 KO's), made true to his promise to score a fast knockout, dropping Canoy to the canvas in the first round with a strong left hook to the jaw.

Canoy (29-9-0, 19 KO's) got up and endured the punishment. He suffered another knockdown from Nery's barrage of five punches in the third round. The referee finally stopped the bout at 2:44 of the third.

Nery is WBC silver world bantamweight champion, and is slated to fight for the world title, which is currently vacant. He held the WBC bantamweight title from August 2017 to February 2018 when he defeated Shinsuke Yamanaka. He also won The Ring's bantamweight title, but he was stripped by The Ring after he tested positive for the banned substance zilpaterol.

Canoy is from Balamban, Cebu. He suffered his first knockout loss at the hands of Nery. Last year he also lost to Mzuvukile Magwaca of South Africa for the World Boxing Federation world bantamweight title.

Amir Khan accused Floyd Mayweather of "ducking" him for years" as he attempts to lure the undefeated American out of retirement. Amir Khan said Floyd Mayweather has been "ducking me for years" and that his "style would cause him load of problems."

Mayweather recently announced that he will come out from retirement for a tune-up bout in Tokyo this December, before the vaunted rematch with Manny Pacquiao next year. Khan reacted angrily upon hearing that Mayweather may return to fight someone and it's not him.

In the amateurs, Khan won the lightweight silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics. He was only 17 then and became Britain's youngest boxing Olympic medalist. He is also one of the youngest ever British professional world champions, winning the WBA light-heavyweight title at 22 years old.
