PHILIPPINE SUFFERS ANOTHER HEARTBREAK TO SOUTH KOREA IN ASIAD BASKETBALL
By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Mon, 27 Aug 2018

The Philippine men's basketball team suffered another heartbreaking loss to perennial tormentor South Korea. The Koreans' deadly sharp shooting at the three-point range stabbed the dagger for the Filipino cagers in the fourth quarter to clinch a 91-82 win. Our loss booted out the Rain or Shine backed PH team from the medal round in the 18th Jakarta Asian Games.
Former PBA import Ricardo Ratliffe caused the biggest trouble by pouring in 30 points adding 15 rebounds. However the near flawless outside shooting of the opposition spoiled the Philippines' bid in the fourth period as the Koreans widened their lead.
The Koreans jumped to an early first quarter lead. The Philippines tasted its first go ahead, 25-24, with a triple by Jordan Clarkson 6:29 in the second quarter. Korea scored four unanswered points to cut the lead to two at halftime.
Clarkson ended the third with a triple to give the Philippines a 65-64 lead heading into the last quarter. From then on, the Philippines committed several errors and missed shots as Korea took the lead, 72-68 with seven minutes to go on a triple by Heo Ilyoung. The Filipino cagers were not able to take back the lead.
Clarkson finished with 25 points while Christian Standhardinger added 16.
It's back to the drawing boards for the Gilas Pilipinas and Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas. It's time to form a permanent Philippine team in the mold of Northern Consolidated Corporation (NCC) by then Ambassador Danding Cojuangco.
Meanwhile, the Philippines won its second and third gold medals courtesy of our golfers. Yuka Saso won the gold medal in women?s individual golf. The Philippine wonen's team also grabbed the team gold and an individual bronze medal won by Bianca Pagdanganan.
Saso finished ahead of silver medal winner Liu Wenbo of China. This was the first time the Philippines won a gold in Asian Games golf since Ramon Brobio won the men's individual golf gold in Seoul in 1986.
