PACQUIAO-MAYWEATHER REMATCH STARTS WITH FLOYD SAYS ARUM

PhilBoxing.com

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, Manny Pacquiao?s promoter for years, is planning to fly to the Philippines on August to discuss the senator champion?s next fight. The possible opponents include lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko, welterweight champion Terence Crawford and a possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

?Can you ever say no to Mayweather?? Arum told Los Angeles Times. ?It won?t be the crazy event of last time, but it?d still be a major attraction.?

At age 39, Pacquiao boosted his gloaming career by knocking out World Boxing Association regular welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse in the seventh round after dropping the Argentine thrice enroute to a stoppage.

Is a Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch possible? It starts with Floyd, says Bob Arum.

The undefeated former pound-for-pound king defeated Pacquiao by unanimous decision in May 2015 in a bout that generated the biggest revenue in boxing history with more than $600 million earned.

The boxing world waited for so long, and the fans were not satisfied because Pacquiao fought with an injured left shoulder and Mayweather kept evading.

A close friend of Mayweather said that the retired Las Vegas resident has ?been taking it easy, traveling,? but hinted that there?s an intrigue for a return bout that could be promoted by the phrase ?No Excuses,? after Pacquiao?s shoulder injury.

Arum said that in case Mayweather expresses his desire for a rematch, he will discuss it with Pacquiao in his visit to the Philippines.

?Mayweather has to say something ? if the fighter?s retired, he?s retired,? Arum said. ?He?s got to make the first move.?

Mayweather retired again after his money making boxing match against MMA superstar Conor McGregor in August and it added to his status as Forbes? richest celebrity.

He attended a charity basketball event at UCLA Tuesday night and told reporters: ?I had a chance to see Manny Pacquiao. Congratulations to Manny Pacquiao. Everyone?s constantly asking me, ?Are you going to fight Manny Pacquiao?? Like I said before, we did what we had to do. I won. He had excuses. Manny Pacquiao, keep up the good work.?

Mayweather is a two-time winner of The Ring Fighter of the Year award in 1998 and 2007, a three-time winner of the Boxing Writers Association of America Fighter of the Year award in 2007, 2013, and 2015, and a six-time winner of the Best Fighter ESPY Award in 2007?2010, then on 2012?2014.
