PhilBoxing.com

GENERAL SANTOS CITY ? Manny Pacquiao?s training camp for the July 15 ring duel versus reigning World Boxing Association (WBA) Welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse has officially kicked off Monday morning in this southern seaport city.

Many people, including members of his training team, were taken aback when Pacquiao went 10 rounds around the rubberized track oval of Antonio C. Acharon Memorial Sports Complex right on the first day of his training camp.

?I was delighted by what I saw. His attitude right at the start of our training camp only showed his determination to win this fight,? lead trainer Restituto ?Buboy? Fernandez said.

Conditioning coach Nonoy Neri explained that Pacquiao managed to keep himself in good shape due to discipline and for keeping himself active even when there is no scheduled fight.

?Senator Pacquiao maintains a healthy lifestyle. He has no vices and he plays an average of five to six games of basketball almost every night,? Neri bared.

Pacquiao, himself, admitted he?s happy to be back in training.

?I miss the gym and everything in the training camp. I?m so glad to be back in training. I?m excited to fight again,? Pacquiao claimed.

After the jogging, Pacquiao shadow boxed for about three minutes then capped his morning training routine with more than 300 abdominal exercises.

The world?s lone eight-division boxing champ headed home afterward to take his breakfast and to rest.

Around 3:00 p.m., the Pinoy boxing icon went to the Wild Card Boxing gym for his afternoon training session.

He spent eight rounds pummeling the mitts with Buboy Fernandez, followed by a three-minute shadow boxing.

He spent one round each pounding the heavy bag, double-end bag and the speed bag. He performed some three-minute skipping rope followed shortly by another two-round shadow boxing.

He capped his afternoon training session by doing more than 300 various abdominal workout.

The Filipino ring sensation will train here until May 13 then fly out to Manila on May 14 to catch with the resumption of Senate session on May 15.

Training camp will continue in Manila for two weeks then back to General Santos on June 1 when Senate will go on a break once again.

Pacquiao revealed his sparring session will start on June 1.

?I have tapped three sparring mates, two Filipino boxers and one foreigner,? Pacquiao said.

He added that he chose sparring partners who are just as big and has almost the same fighting style as Matthysse.
