NBA -- Warriors hold off Cavs to sweep season series

PhilBoxing.com

CLEVELAND -- The Golden State Warriors came back from a nine-point deficit to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, 118-108, on Sunday night at the Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland.

Kevin Durant led the reigning NBA champs with 32 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists while Steph Curry finished with 23 and 8 dimes. The come from behind win gave the Warriors a regular season sweep over the Cavaliers, whom they beat last Christmas Day at the Oracle Arena in Oakland.

It was a complete team effort for Golden State as Draymond Green had 11 points, 16 rebounds and nine assists. Klay Thompson added 17.

The Warriors, who shot 41 of 85 from the field, made only 12 of 32 triples, but Durant made the one that mattered the most --- a 26-footer that pushed the Warriors' lead to 116-104 with 1:50 left to play in the fourth quarter. Durant, the 2017 NBA Finals MVP, nded up making 9-of-16 from the field and 4-of-6 from long distance. He also swished all 10 of his free throws.

LeBron James led the Cavaliers with 32 points, 8 rebounds and six assists. But the King was hounded by 8 turnovers, missed both of his 3-point attempts and went just 8-of-13 from the free throw line. Isaiah Thomas had a productive 19 points and 4 assists while Kevin Love added 17 and 7 boards, but the Cavs got little support from the rest of their starters and the bench.

The Warriors have won three straight and 8 of their last 10. They currently lead the league's overall standings with a 36-9 slate. Their next assignment is against the surging Chicago Bulls tomorrow at the United Center.

The Cavaliers, meanwhile, have dropped four in a row and have won only two of their last 10 outings. Their record fell to 26-17, third place in the Eastern Conference and 7.5 games behind the 34-10 Boston Celtics.
