ISAAC DOGBOE STOPS CESAR JUAREZ IN 5TH IN GHANA

PhilBoxing.com

Ghana's Isaac Dogboe won by fifth round TKO over Cesar Juarez at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, Ghana Saturday night (early Sunday morning in Manila) to win the WBO Interim super bantamweight title and becomes the mandatory challenger of regular champion Jessie Magdaleno of Las Vegas, a fight that could be made by March.

Dogboe (18-0, 12KOs), immediately went toe to toe with the durable Juarez (20-6-0, 15KOs) who has the reputation of bringing his opponents to deep waters in the later rounds and outlasting them. Dogboe attacked Juarez's body early with combinations to the head.

In the second round, Dogboe caught Juarez with a left straight to the jaw the sent the Mexican tumbling to the canvas for the first time. Dogboe tried to finish Juarez but the Mexican withstood the pressure and threw wild swings of his own.

In the third, Juarez came back strong and stalked Dogboe all over the ring but the Ghanian wisely boxed and using angles to effectively counter Juarez.

In the fourth round Juarez continues to pressure Dogboe and had his moments but Dogboe wisely gets out of trouble everytime Juarez tries to trap him in the ropes by clinching or getting out. The question however was whether Dogboe can sustain the frenetic pace of the fight the whole night.

In the fifth round, as Juarez continues to move forward, swinging wildly at times, a vicious left cross by Dogboe connected to the jaw of Juarez that threw the Mexican to the canvas for the second time. This time however, Juarez appeared to be badly hurt and stood with unsteady legs. Veteran referee Tony Weeks waved off the fight seeing Juarez was unfit to continue.

Juarez, 25, who almost outlasted Nonito Donaire Jr in their fight of the year matchup in 2015 and rose from the canvas to stop Albert Pagara in the 8th round in 2016, finally met his match in Dogboe, 23, and saw his world title aspiration evaporate in front of the wildly chanting Ghanians in Accra in a match that was broadcast live on the Internet.

"The best defense is offense," Dogboe told the Ghanian interviewer after the fight and sent a message to Jessie Magdaleno: "I'm coming for you baby. The lion of Africa has arrived."
