'BAI' ELORDE FACES CHANIEV FOR WBO/IBF BELTS THIS SATURDAY IN RUSSIA (PHOTOS)

PhilBoxing.com

WBO No. 7 ranked lightweight Juan Martin 'Bai' Elorde will risk his world ranking when he faces Russia's Isa Chaniev this Saturday at the Evloev Sports Plaza in Nazran, Russia's southern town near the border of Georgia, more than 1,700 kilometers south of Moscow.

Elorde (23-1-1, 10KOs), the current WBO Oriental lightweight champion, and Chaniev (11-1-0, 5KOs) will fight for the vacant WBO International lightweight title and Chaniev's IBF Inter-Continental lightweight title. The winner of this fight will figure prominently in the WBO and IBF world rankings.

The WBO world lightweight title is currently vacant after former champion Terry Flanagan of the United Kingdom recently decided to move up to the junior welterweight division. The IBF lightweight champion is Robert Easter Jr of Ohio, USA.

Elorde, 33, has racked up 12 wins since his only loss to Angel Rodriguez of Mexico on Nov. 13, 2010 at the Cowboys Stadium on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs Antonio Margarito WBC world super welterweight title fight. He has since captured the WBO Asia-Pacific super featherweight belt and the WBO Oriental lightweight belt.

Chaniev, 25, won by decision over Sanman Gym's Rimar Metuda on Dec. 15, 2016 but lost in his next fight against compatriot Fedor Papazov (20-2-0, 12KOs) on May 25, 2017. Chaniev however bounced back by defeating Jean Pierre Bauwens (42-5-2, 24KOs) of Belgium in his next fight to capture the IBF Inter-Continental lightweight title.

'Bai' Elorde is being accompanied in Russia by his trainer Cloy Baduria and conditioning coach Dan Rose. Bai's family are also in Russia to support him including his wife Lorraine and their two children Citi and Santi as well his parents Johnny and Liza and brother Juan Miguel (Migs), the WBO Asia-Pacific super bantamweight champion.

L-R: Johnny Elorde, Migs, Bai, conditioning coach Dan Rose and trainer Cloy Baduria at the Evloev Sports Plaza in Nazran, Russia, the venue of the Elorde-Chaniev fight this Saturday.

All in the boxing family (L-R): Conditioning coach Dan Rose, Bai's wife Lorraine, Bai Elorde, Liza, Johnny, Migs, trainer Cloy Baduria and Bai and Lorraine's two kids Citi and Santi.
