BARRERA BEATS VALERA IN ROUGH AND TUMBLE FIGHT

In the main undercard of the Sergey Kovalev-Vyacheslav Shabranskyy WBO light heavyweight world title fight Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York, Sullivan Barrera (21-1-0, 14KOs of Miami via Cuba and Felix Valera (15-2-0, 13KOs) of the Dominican Republic engaged in a rough and tumble affair wherein both fighters each went down to the canvas once in the first round and Valera lost 3 points from deduction due to low blows in rounds three, six and eight while Barrera was also deducted a point in round nine for the same offense. After the smoke cleared, it was Barrera who won by runaway decision with scores of 98-88, 97-90 and 97-89.
