SHAW AIMS UP FOR SUPER8 PhilBoxing.com Sat, 28 Oct 2017 HOME TOWN GLORY BECKONS FOR MICK SHAW IN A 48 FIGHT PRO CAREER TOOWOOMBA'S MICK SHAW HAS ONLY FOUGHT 3 TIMES IN THE GARDEN CITY. Shaw picked up the first win of his pro career in Toowoomba in his second career bout now he's looking to collect the final victory of his career at Rumours International on November 25 on the TGW & SMITHY BRINGS THE BIG FIGHTS 18 SUPER8 card. The concept of the Super8 and the draw of fighting in his home city was enough to entice Shaw to throw on the gloves one more time - or as he hopes - three more times in the one night. "Three more times would be great wouldn't it," Shaw said. "Just to go around in front of family and friends and kids and adults I coach now is going to be exciting." In an interesting side story to the tournament if the draw falls accordingly Shaw could re-new an old rivalry. He and fellow super8 entrant Jason Kanofski met back in 2008 in an eight round contest which ended in a draw. "That's one I wouldn't mind getting back, a win over Jason would be a great one but look there are heaps of good fighters in this one," Shaw said "Anyone on the night I think can win." Shaw enters the tournament as one of the most experienced boxers in the draw. He's a former Australian lightweight and light welterweight champion as well as Queensland light weight title holder. His resume includes the who's who of Australian boxing - Billy Dib, Paul Fleming, Nedal Hussein among his opponents in a forty eight bout career. "I think experience will play a big part in this one, just keeping composure because I expect these fights - it's just going to be straight into it, there will be no feeling out period," Shaw said "I think the experience I've gained over the years is going to assist me." The 8 confirmed competitors are Jack Asis - former IBO World Champion. Jamie Hilt - Queensland Welterweight champion Jonathan Tuhu - Multiple Muay thai and kick boxing champion Mick Shaw - Former Australian Champion Ya Jie Ding - Chinese rising star Luke Woods - Commonwelth Games amateur, 3-0 as a pro Robert Toomey - Former IBO Oceania Champion Jason Kanofski - Former Queensland Champion Shaw is one of three local fighters in the draw - Jack Asis and Jamie Hilt the other two. "I think the concept of the tournament suits me," Shaw said. "We're training hard and we're in it to win it." |
