MAYWEATHER-MCGREGOR SELLS ABOUT 4.4 MILLION PPV'S AND SHORT OF THE MONEY-MANNY PPV RECORD

PhilBoxing.com

Mayweather-McGregor is expected to generate approximately 4.4 million pay-per-view buys and will be announced officially this week as reported by BoxingScene. That means the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Conor McGregor match was not able to break the pay-per-view record set by Mayweather?s victory against Manny Pacquiao. About 4.6 million viewers purchased Mayweather-Pacquiao PPV's in May 2015.

UFC president Dana White and the promoters thought Mayweather-McGregor would exceed 5 million buys. The result of Mayweather-McGregor though was well-received, despite the flooding of criticisms of a mismatch. Mayweather was aggressive, unlike during the Pacquiao fight, and stopped McGregor, the MMA fighter turned boxing debutante, in the 10th round.

Mayweather-Pacquiao generated more than $600 million in total revenues, including a live gate of about $72.2 million at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Mayweather-McGregor earned a live gate income of approximately $55.4 million but it still could surpass the overall Mayweather-Pacquiao revenue numbers because of international pay-per-view earnings and other profitable ventures.

Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) was guaranteed a purse of $100 million for a return to the ring from retirement to fight McGregor (21-3, 18 KOs MMA record) in a boxing match. McGregor earned $30 million guaranteed amount. Both Mayweather and McGregor are expected to receive an income which is more than their guaranteed purse when they receive their respective shares of the pay-per-view revenues.

Mayweather likes McGregor after all. Floyd posted a photo in his Instagram account that shows an eight-foot painting of McGregor in Mayweather's new $26 million Beverly Hills mansion. The McGregor painting is on one side of a huge doorway, opposite a same sized Mayweather painting on the other side. The works are painted by Tiffanie Anderson, the artist who painted a picture of Mayweather when he won over Manny Pacquiao in May 2015.

Tom Loeffler says Gennady ?GGG? Golovkin is all ready to get back into action in a December rematch with Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez because the Kazakh feels he won their fight. Canelo, however, wants to wait until next year before he fights again. There are some concerns that Canelo (49-1-2, 34 KOs) will avoid a rematch with Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) after escaping with a draw given by the judges in Las Vegas.

Loeffler says that Canelo was under pressure from his Mexican boxing fans to fight Golovkin for the first time. The same fans probably will put pressure on Canelo to fight Golovkin in a rematch because of the controversial draw which Canelo didn?t deserve against Triple G. Canelo?s own boxing fans booed him after the fight, Loeffler says. That shows the fans believed Canelo?s performance was substandard.

?The culture is that Mexicans don?t run. And never before have we heard Canelo booed the way he was by his Mexican fans in Vegas after the draw was announced,? said Loeffler to The Daily Mail. ?Triple G knows he really won the first fight and he would go again as early as December if they wanted.?

Canelo lacks in height and reach which is a drawback in his campaign at the heavier weight . With a height of 5? 8 1/2?, Canelo is short for the middleweight division. That disadvantage worked against Canelo and he will exert more effort and train religiously if he wants to succeed against Golovkin and the other taller middleweight boxers in the division like Danny Jacobs and Jermall Charlo, both over 6-feet.

A Swiss court dismissed a case filed by detractors of International Boxing Association President Wu Ching-Kuo for them to gain control of the boxing governing body. Wu was accused by the AIBA's executive committee of leading the sports body to the brink of bankruptcy. An AIBA statement was released that the Lausanne court's verdict confirmed Wu as amateur boxing's legitimate president.

The AIBA executive committee had passed a motion of no-confidence against Wu's presidency, accusing him of financial mismanagement, and appealed at Swiss courts in July to declare a temporary administration. But the action was disapproved with Monday's ruling favoring Wu to remain as AIBA boss. He was blamed of sinking the organization into debts worth $15 million. Wu reasoned out that AIBA is financially stable, blaming his accusers of staging a "military coup".

In 2005, Russian boxer Nikolai Valuev became the heaviest and tallest boxer to win a professional world title at 323 pounds and 7 feet tall. He is a two-time WBA world heavyweight champion, having first won the title from John Ruiz in 2005 and losing it to Ruslan Chagaev in 2007. The following year, the title was vacant and Valuev regained it in a rematch with Ruiz, then losing the belt to David Haye in 2009 in his final fight. He has 50 wins, 2 losses, 1 no contest and 34 wins by KO.
