Bobby Gunn Jr Wins WBC and WBA Titles
PhilBoxing.com Mon, 04 Sep 2017
Last night in front of a sold out crowd at Mountaineer Casino in West Virginia, undefeated star Bobby Gunn Jr (9-0, 7 KO) stopped former world title challenger Mike Miranda (44-7, 40 KO) in round two to win the WBC FECARBOX and WBA Fedelatin Super Middleweight Titles.
From the onset of the first round Gunn Jr came out blazing and looked to control the ring, cutting off Miranda's angles and forcing him outside.
He used his jab to continually back Miranda into a corner, where he picked and chose his patented body shots. Miranda did a good job for the first round of covering tightly to absorb most of the blows on his arms, but in between rounds it was apparent that eating all the young gunslingers power shots was going to take a toll.
Gunn Jr picked up round two where he left off in the first, reestablishing the jab and working the body. Miranda did his best to bang off the ropes looking to land a big right hook followed by a straight left but Gunn Jr's guard was impenetrable.
When Gunn Jr again trapped Miranda in the corner, he fired off a flurry of body shots punctuated by a vicious left hook under the elbow of his opponent, and Miranda couldn't reach his feet by the end of the 10 count.
At the age of 20 young Gunn showed the poise, maturity and patience of a ring veteran, and with the big win and capturing the titles soared himself through the rankings.
The win also made Gunn Jr and his dad, CPBC International Heavyweight Champion Bobby Gunn, the only active father/son title holders in the sport. The family continues to add to their legacy each time they step between the ropes.
