Canadian Prospect Henry Stewart Makes Case For KO Of The Year
PhilBoxing.com Mon, 04 Sep 2017
Fighting beside his cousin and Super Middleweight title holder Bobby Gunn Jr last night in West Virginia, Cruiserweight and top Canadian prospect Henry Stewart put on a boxing clinic for nearly two rounds before stopping Nicholas Shanks with what could be in contention for knockout of the year.
The tall Cruiserweight Stewart used his commanding jab to control the early part of the first round, and never gave Shanks a chance to get settled or into a rhythm. Stewart constantly stuck out the Larry Holmes-like jab to keep Shanks at bay and to measure to set up the big right hand which he was able to land at will.
Despite being spun around from a huge right hand preceded by a hard jab, Shanks was saved by the bell and survived his way into the second round.
Stewart resumed work with the sharp jab to control the ring and halt any kind of attack Shanks was looking to put forward, and while he was earning points with each one he landed, it was also evident they were doing damage.
Shanks tried to use feints to get Stewart to pull the trigger prematurely, but the calm Cruiserweight didn't bite and continued to stalk with the big left hand. He stayed relaxed in the pocket and waited for Shanks to force an overhand two which he timed perfectly with a right hand of his own and connected with a devastating shot to the chin which dropped Shanks instantly. It was lights out before Shanks hit the canvas and he lay there for a moment immobilized before coming to.
With the impressive win Stewart not only kept his unblemished record intact at 4-0 with 2 KO but also made a case for earning knockout of the year with his vicious right hand stoppage.
Stewart made a big statement last night and with a few more wins under his belt could find his name in the mix for a Cruiserweight title fight.
