Strategies Barrera Have to Muster to Defeat Pacquiao
But Would They Enough?

PhilBoxing.com

In the wars participated by Bernard Hopkins and Antonio Tarver, Hopkins and Winky Wright, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Oscar de la Hoya, and Winky Wright and Cory Spinks (in his controversial bout), some members of the hoi polloi told me emphatically that all of those hypes were all bore.

They said Hopkins was either stalking or running against Tarver, hugging and clinching against Wright, while Mayweather and Spinks were like a roller skater cum ballet dancer at the consternation of their mentioned opponents and fight fans who thought they were mugged of what they were seeing.

Thus, the fights were boring and contemptuous, they said.

While I incessantly and tirelessly interjected that these fights made for an intelligent or scientific chess matches.

Imagine, what would have happened if Hopkins, Mayweather or Spinks clashed head-on with their respective stronger or difficult opponents?

Gee whiz man, all of them would be instantly annihilated!

This apprehension is planted on the amygdala of Barrera.

And these styles of fighting would probably have been contemplated in Marco Antonio Barrera's camp vis-?-vis their dilemma against Pacquaio.

The Filipino superman (except superman's handsome face) is not only fast, he is very fast!

He is not only strong, he is very strong!

Then how can you demystify that mystic?

The anti-thesis of fast is by sliding, running, and ambushing the Pacman in a counter whenever he lowers his left hand (as he was inclined to do it in his previous fights) after it unleash its bomb or bombs.

The anti-thesis of strong is to frustrate it by either hugging the body or clinching the left whack-whack cannon of Pacquaio before or after Barrera unloads his trademark right straight and left upper cut rattling combination.

An intelligent but weaker Barrera should not use his brawn but his brain in outfoxing the sledge hammer wielding Pacman by using the fight plans chalked up by those above-mentioned pugilists.

Compared to Morales, Barrera is still more dangerous.

Morales was already a damaged fighter in his rematch and rubber match with the Filipino hero. His abnormal weight of 130 lbs from his real weight of 135 lbs was a toll that haunted him on those two lopsided clashes. Notwithstanding, the metal, er, physical fatigue it carries with his previous earth-scorching damn-the-torpedoes wars particularly with his three Barrera campaigns where the latter defeated him in the last two.

While in this Oct. 7 (Philippine time) fight, Barrera was fighting in his natural weight, his fans are praying that he still has that last fight of his career to bring an upset with the Pacman.

Though running and clinching would be the opposite of excitement, I surmised that the objective of the game for this desperate Mexican -- who is being chased by Father time -- is to win even in an unexciting fight where running , clinching, and head butting (?) will be the order of the day.
