Blu Girls Stumble Against Taipei, Look to Regroup vs. Hong Kong
By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Fri, 18 Jul 2025
The RP Blu Girls sustained their second straight defeat at the 2025 WBSC Women’s Softball Asia Cup after falling to Chinese Taipei, 3–0, in a tightly contested matchup. Despite a solid start on defense, the Filipinas struggled to generate offense, recording only two hits over seven innings. Taipei capitalized on key moments, scoring in the second and sixth innings to secure the win.
The loss comes on the heels of the Blu Girls' heartbreaking 2–1 defeat to China the day prior. Still, the team entered the match with a 5–2 record, including impressive wins against South Korea, Malaysia, India, Thailand, and Singapore. Despite back-to-back setbacks, the Philippines remain firmly in contention for a semifinal spot, pending the outcome of their final preliminary game.
ASAPHIL President and Cebuana Lhuillier CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier expressed confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back. “We knew this stretch of games would test us,” Lhuillier said. “The important thing now is how the team responds. The fight is far from over, and I believe in the resilience and heart of these players.”
The Blu Girls, now 5–3 in the standings, are set to face Hong Kong tomorrow at 11 a.m. in a crucial match that could determine their playoff positioning. With qualification for the 2026 Women’s Softball World Cup still within reach, the Philippines will aim to finish strong and reignite their earlier momentum.-Marlon Bernardino-
