More lucrative fights await Manny Pacquiao By Leo Reyes PhilBoxing.com Thu, 17 Jul 2025 ![]() An impressive and convincing win against WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios could trigger at least two more lucrative fights for the only six-division world champion, Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao is coming off a long fight holiday following his loss to Yordenis Ugas in 2020. On Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nevada, Pacquiao will face Barrios in what could be his last professional fight if he fails to dethrone the reigning WBC Welterweight titlist. Less than a week before the Las Vegas boxing showdown, oddsmakers still favor the Mexican-American champion to retain his crown. They claimed that Barrios is young and at the peak of his boxing career, while Pacquiao is too old for the 30-year-old champion. Pacquiao is 46 and has not fought since his loss to Ugas five years ago. Still, Pacquiao’s drumbeaters say that the former Philippine senator is still competitive at 46. Long-time boyhood friend and trainer Buboy Fernandez thinks Pacquiao will still capitalize on his speed and power, which has remained unchanged as shown in training and sparring sessions at the Wild Card gym. Addressing issues about Pacquiao’s age, Fernandez said, “46 is just a number.” he told ES News, pertaining to Pacquiao’s ability to preserve and maintain his footwork, speed, and power. Pacquiao’s longtime trainer Freddie Roach said Pacquiao’s footwork and hand speed have not diminished as he aged. The Hall of Fame trainer believes Pacquiao will win over Barrios. While Barrios is favored to keep his WBC welterweight title Saturday night, Pacquiao could once more stun the whole boxing world by defeating Barrios and capturing another world title. With an impressive and convincing win, at least two (2) very lucrative fights await the world’s only six-division titleist. One of the richest fights that could surface with Pacquiao’s win over Barrios is a showdown against unbeaten world champion Gervonta Davis of Baltimore, Maryland, who knocked down Barrios in 2021. Like Pacquiao, Davis is a southpaw and stands 5’5”, almost the same as Pacquiao’s height. He is a veteran of 31 professional fights. Davis, who is a very popular crowd-drawer, is being promoted by Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Pacquiao’s ultimate goal is a rematch against Mayweather, Jr., a fight that could generate huge revenues for both fighters. A fight and a win against Davis could lead to a long-awaited rematch between Mayweather, Jr. and Pacquiao. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Leo Reyes. ![]() |
