Pacquiao starts preparation for his July 2 ring date By Aquiles Z. Zonio PhilBoxing.com Fri, 05 May 2017 MAKATI CITY ? Boxing eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao had started his light training Tuesday morning by doing a roadwork, footwork drills and abdominal exercises. Pacquiao, the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) Welterweight champion, will make his first title defense on July 2 against undefeated Australian boxer Jeff Horn in Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia. Pacquiao dethroned former undefeated Mexican-American WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas in their Las Vegas clash in November last year. ?We are on schedule. This week, it would just be a light training then next week, I will start going to the gym,? Pacquiao told Philboxing.com. Pacquiao?s handlers claim there?s no need to rush as the boxing Pinoy sensation is known to be hardworking when it comes to training. Michael Koncz, Pacquiao?s Canadian adviser, said ?In my life, I have never seen a boxer who trains as hard as Manny Pacquiao. He?s one of a kind. That?s why it?s dangerous to start the training early as he might peak too soon.? Koncz said Pacquiao is not taking Horn lightly. ?Manny Pacquiao climbs up the ring well-prepared as what you can see in his previous fights,? Koncz added. This week?s training regimen would just revolve on bringing back Pacquiao?s speed and stamina. By next week, the boxer-turned-senator would start training at the Elorde Boxing gym in Five-eCom building near the Mall of Asia. Pacquiao has remained active even without a fight by playing basketball with an average of five games a day. He also plays chess and billiards to toughen his mental focus in the game.
