OTIK, SALIM HEADLINES BANTAYAN CARD AUG. 25 PhilBoxing.com Wed, 22 Aug 2007 The island of Bantayan will be rumbling on the heavy fists of two local boxing talents on August 25 in a ring brawl dubbed as “Karambola sa Isla: Garbo Sang Bantayan.” Super featherweight Fernando “Rikitik” Otik of Madridejos, Bantayan Island, Cebu will be facing super bantamweight Edward Escriber of Cagayan de Oro City in a 10-round slugger. Otik is known for his recent but unfortunate bid over the vacant WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight youth belt against Hee-Jae Jo of South Korea. The brunt of his loss brought defeat to then undefeated Danny Boy Bontilao (10-4-0) on June 26. Escriber, with 43 fights in his belt, fought Thai Fahsan 3K Battery on Oct 26, 2006 in his losing bid for the IBF Pan Pacific super bantamweight title in Chaiyaphum, Thailand. Both orthodox fighters, the nine bouts of Otik may not be enough to stop the 8 KO record of Escriber. In the second main card, featherweight Reman Salim of Bacolod City will exchange blows with Boholano Ricky Sismundo of Tagbilaran City. Salim had his professional debut in 2003 against Raffy Fuentes where he won. Although with 4 KO’s in his belt, winning the title has been elusive for Salim in his four previous attempts at various divisions in WBO, WBC, and PABA. Hard-handed Sismundo debut in professional boxing by knocking out Nono Paris in 2006. Because of his shorter run on the ring (7 bouts), would he be strong enough to stand against the more experienced Salim? Watch to find out. In the undercard, Fabio Marfa of Cebu City will face an 8-rounder against Roland Malinao of Butuan City. A six round fight will feature Romeo Jakosalem of Davao del Sur vs. Sonny Alfara. Two 4-rounders will show Rolito Nengasca of Barili, Cebu and Rey Villar of North Cotabato slugging it out with Albert Villacampa and Jerome Bontog, both of Mandaue City respectively. Six (6) exciting amateur bouts will also be played featuring a Cebu selection against the local boys of Bantayan. This event is sponsored by Mayon Marine Products, Island Shipping Corp, Fighter Wine, Fight Club Professionals, Bantayan Petron Station, and Mr. Lyndon Villacastin. “Karambola” starts at 7:00 PM at the Bantayan Multi-Purpose Center. |
