MAYOL AND CONCEPCION HAVEN?T BEEN PAID By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 09 Aug 2007 The pain of seeing his title hopes dashed when he suffered an eighth round knockout at the hands of Ulises Solis in his IBF light flyweight title fight in Chicago last Sunday was bad enough. But now Rodel Mayol is pained even more because he hasn?t been paid as yet. 19 year old super bantamweight Benjie Concepcion who scored a stunning fourth round TKO over highly touted Gabriel Elizondo to win the North American Boxing Federation title on the same card has also reportedly not received payment and was set to take a Philippine Airlines Flight to Manila with manager Aljoe Jaro without picking up his purse. Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today learned that Michael Koncz who arranged the fights on the card of Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has promised to pay the fighters tomorrow and according to Mayol, Koncz claimed he was still working on the breakdown of expenses. Mayol was at the plush apartment of Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao and said he had visited Dr. Ed de Vega?s clinic to have himself fitted with a new mouthpiece which the well-known dentist provides all the Filipino boxers who fight in the US. Mayol who has already lost in two title fights, the first being to WBC minimum weight champion Eagle Kyowa, a Japan-based Thai, said he would resume light training on Monday by jogging but wouldn?t be allowed to fight for at least three months because he had been knocked out. In the meantime Mayol said he plans to remain in the US. In an earlier overseas telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today, Aljoe Jaro said he was ?not leaving Concepcion in the US. He is coming home with me on the 9th.? Aljoe Jaro who also manages IBF minimum weight champion Florante Condes said Top Rank promoter Bov Arum spoke to him after the fight and said he was ?planning to feature Bernabe on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Marco Antonio Barrera rematch on October 6 or if not in a big fight card Arum is planning in Canada.?
