Cabalquinto is the better champion By Lito delos Reyes PhilBoxing.com Mon, 06 Jun 2016 ![]() REIGNING Philippine super lightweight title-holder Adones Cabalquinto landed more punches and combinations to emerge as the better champion over Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) super lightweight king Rodel Wenceslao by winning by a unanimous decision in their non-title fight held Saturday night at the Almendras gym in Davao City. The 27-year old Cabalquinto, who earlier wanted to score a knockout victory, dominated the fight but Wenceslao also proved to be a hard nut to crack. Nevertheless, Cabalquinto, who damaged the face of Wenceslao after 10 rounds improved his record to 23 wins with 15 knockouts against one loss. The 23-year old Wenceslao, who scored a first round knockout win in his last outing against Kun Wang last April 11 in Jinghong, China, suffered his 12th defeat against 11 wins and 1 draw. ?I was really worried because Wenceslao was very strong. But Cabalquinto fought brilliantly and he followed by instructions? said Neri, one of the Filipino assistant trainers of 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao. Cabalquinto, a former WBC Asian Boxing Council super lightweight champion and fresh from a first round knockout win against Nelson ?Mr. Fantastic? Gulpe last February 13 in Buluan, Maguindanao, landed more combinations before getting away from the counter punches of Wenceslao. ?It was really a good fight between two champions,? said Neri. Meanwhile, two undefeated fighters from the MP Davao Stable ? Interim WBO Oriental lightweight title-holder Jay-ar ?Hitman? Inson (11-0-0-8KOs) and Genesis ?Cobra? Libranza (10-0-0-7KOs) are also kept their unblemished records by knocking their separate rivals in the undercard. Inson landed a quick straight punch to the body followed by a hook on the face for a first round knockout against former WBC Asian Boxing Council super bantamweight champion Richard Betos (20-15-1-7KO) of Barobo, Surigao. Libranza connected solid body punches and uppercuts to force Jetly Purisima (21-19-4-6KO) of General Santos City to quit in the third round. ?Purisima was really hurt by Libranza?s punches that?s why he quit,? said Neri.
