USJ-R JAGUARS CLINCH LASTFINAL FOUR SPOT WITH WIN OVER UC WEBMATERS By Michael Kenji Izumi PhilBoxing.com Mon, 28 Sep 2015 The University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars overcame a sluggish start to regroup in the fourth quarter behind a rip-roaring 22-9 blast to eventually rout a game University of Cebu Webmasters who battled tooth and nail in the first three quarters before fading in the final quarter to surrender by 20 points, 73-53, to allow the Jaguars to clinch the last Final Four slot in the 2015 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) College basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum. RJ Dinolan, Mac Labares and Kevin Villafranca anchored a run that gave the Jaguars a comfortable 65-49 leading with just over 2:40 left to play. Dinolan, who sat out a long spell because of foul trouble, came alive in a final stretch scoring six points to finish with 12. Coach Jun Noel?s veteran Kevin Villafranca was a tower of strength off the boards and scored almost at will under the Webmasters basket to lead the Jaguars with 18 points while Labares who was energy personified added 15 points, six rebounds and three steals. The Viva Sports TV panelists Rico Navarro and Sandi Grumo picked rookie guard Jaybie Mantilla as the ?Best Player of the Game? as he played a key role in orchestrating the Jaguar?s offense and finished with 10 points, six boards and three assists. With the win the Jaguars join the University of the Visayas Green Lancers, University of San Carlos Warriors and the Southwestern University Cobras in the round-robin semifinal round which will eventually determine which two teams will battle for the title in a best-of-five championship series. The start of the Final Four games will open on Tuesday as the Cebu collegiate league takes a break for Sunday?s All Star Game which will also include a three-point contest and a popular Slam Dunk competition. Prior to the All Star Game Viva?s recording stars, Youtube sensation Donalyn Bartolome and popular young rapper Shehylee will perform for the fans who will each do one song and then figure in a duet. In the second game of the double-header, the University of the Visayas Green Lancers repeated over the reigning titleholders Southwestern University Cobras, 75-60, to earn the top spot in the semifinals. Behind by 10 points in the third quarter, the Green Lancers began to play tough defense while banking on shifty guard Jun Manzo who scored 16 of his 19 points in that stretch to help his team finish the round with a 10-2 card. Though UV and USC are tied at the top, UV Green Lancers took the No. 1 spot by virtue of their huge 74-43 win over the Cobras last weekend.
