PACQUIAO TO COME BACK TOMORROW AFTER 7-HOUR DEPOSITION; ARUM, SENSING HE DOESN'T HAVE THE GOODS, TALKS SETTLEMENT!
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Thu, 14 Jun 2007
In an exclusive report by Boxingconfidential.com, it was reported today that Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao has just come out of a seven-hour deposition with Golden Boy lawyers and will come back tomorrow for more.
And while at this, Top Rank's Bob Arum has just informed Michael Marley at he is ?ready to make total peace? in one and various disputes between his Top Rank company and Oscar De La Hoya?s Golden Boy Promotions.
Arum stressed that he is looking forward to this Saturday's court-ordered mediation, where he will be accompanied by his topnotch lawyers and Oscar De la Hoya will also be accompanied by the cerebral Richard Schaefer and their brilliant battery of lawyers.
?Manny did great. We come back tomorrow for more but Manny did just great,? Arum was quoted in the report as saying. ?He is feisty, he is street smart and overall he is an intelligent guy. I was really impressed. And he just told the truth which always helps. Oscar was there today," Arum added about the deposition which started from 9:45 AM to 4:30 PM, although he did not say if he exchanged pleasantries with the Golden Boy or traded sharp glances.
?What happens this coming weekend could change the whole Pacman situation. A settlement with Golden Boy, if it happens, opens up the whole picture. So we?ll have to wait to see what happens in the mediation.?
Some experts opine that Arum is now talking of a settlement, knowing fully well that he does not have the boxers he can pit against Pacquiao which would bring in the cash and legitimacy of the Pinoy icon.
"Humberto Soto is a high-risk, low-reward proposition for Manny. And besides, Bob is trying to make him his next Latino attraction. A loss to Manny would derail Bob's plans for his Latino target market. Who does he have for that? JC Chavez Jr? C'mon!" said a source
