Palicte, Cabalquinto in Tibay ng Pinoy 10

PhilBoxing.com

REIGNING International Boxing Federation (IBF) World Youth flyweight champion Aston Palicte and undisputed IBF Asia Pacific and Philippine junior welterweight champion Adones Cabalquinto will also both see action against fighters from Cebu in the Tibay ng Pinoy X: Duel in Davao slated on August 14 at 1 p.m. at the SM Davao Annex in Ecoland.

Palicte (18 wins, 16 KOs, 1 loss) will face Fernando ?Batang Bato? Ocon (13 wins, 5 KOs, 9 loss, 1 draw) in a non-title fight while the undefeated Cabalquinto (20 wins, 13 KOs) takes on RJ ?Sharp? Anoos (8 wins, 2 KO, 6 loses, 1 draw) in their much-awaited rematch.

The two exciting match-ups are the main supporting bouts of the 12-round title-fight for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) Orient Interim lightweight crown between undefeated Jay-ar ?The Hitman? Inson of Davao City and former WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight champion Victor Mausol of Indonesia.

?Nagasalamat dyud ko ug dako sa kay Congressman Manny Pacquiao na gitagaan ko nya ug higayon na makadula sa championship (Thank you very much to our Congressman Manny Pacquiao for giving this chance to fight in the championship),? said the 24-year old Inson, who scored a first round knockout against Elmer Legaria in his previous fight held in Panabo last April 5.

It will also be Inson?s first time to fight in the main event and for 12 rounds.

?Paningkamutan dyud nako na makuha ang korona (I will really try my best to win the crown),? said the southpaw Inson.
Palicte and Cabalquinto, on the other hand, also both vowed to win by knockouts if they will be given a chance in their 10-rounder bouts.

Palicte has won all his last eight fights by knockouts including his first round stoppage against Jomythlek Sor Narongchan for the vacant IBF World Youth title last January 31 at the USEP Gym.
In his last outing, the 5-foot-7 knockout artist and native of Bago City stopped Michael Escobia in the 3rd round last May 30 at the Lagao Gym in General Santos City.

Cabalquinto, on the other hand, made a short work on challenger Jonel Gadapan in the opening round of their 12-round title-fight for the RP crown also last May 30.

Cabalquinto, however, only won by a unanimous decision against Anoos in their first encounter for the Philippine title held in Makati last October 26, 2013.

But promoter Joven Jimenez now thinks that Cabalquinto might win by a knockout already against Anoos.

?Malaki kasi ang pag improved ni Adones simula nang nag training na siya sa MP Davao gym (There is now a very big improvement on Adones since he started training at the MP Davao gym),? said Jimenez.

Chief trainer at MP Davao gym is Raidel ?Nonoy? Neri, one of the Filipino assistant trainers of 8-time world division champion Manny Pacquiao.

The Tibay ng Pinoy IX, which is again free to the public will also have five 10-rounders, two 8-rounders and three 4-rounders. It is supported by SM Mall of Davao, The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Gatorade, Sting, Pepsi, South Coast Mitsubishi, Cerritos Mitsubishi and the city government of Davao. ? LITO DELOS REYES
